First, and most importantly, once you create an account, it cannot be deleted or deactivated. I came across Mappen when my 11yo daughter left her phone at home and notifications from Mappen kept coming through. She was invited to Mappen via text by a school friend, also 11yo. When I opened the app, I was surprised to see my EXACT address on a map with a photo of my kid. As I scrolled through, I could see exactly where all her friends were, at their homes. Luckily for me, she had been using the app only for five days with less than ten friends, all known from school. The potential for danger is immeasurable. I immediately disabled her phone’s location services. It took me a while to find Mappen’s setting controls, but once I did I followed the “Deactivate” prompts, which requires one to enter a mobile phone number to receive a code and enter said code to deactivate. I completed the process over five times and the app is still sending notifications. I then removed each friend, one by one, to ensure no one can find my minor daughter. There is no option to delete the account. This app is intrusive on your Contacts and locks your profile to maintain user numbers. This platform is a perfect tool for catphishers, pedophiles, and stalkers. Please take the time to think about this app before downloading. Definitely NOT an app appropriate for teens.
