Good, but flawed by refusal to follow Apple standards – Feedly - Smart News Reader Review

There's a lot to like about Feedly. Unfortunately the joy of using the app is ruined by developer laziness in for following Apple app guidelines. I do hope that's fixed soon. So what's the point of this app? The point is that it helps you track a certain type of blog, namely blogs that tend to be updated infrequently (perhaps once a week or less); it feels like a waste of time to visit such sites every day, but you don't want to miss the occasional articles that do get posted. You can just throw such blogs into Feedly then open the app once or twice a month to see what's new. This part (tracking sites) works great, as do the navigation features, once you get the hang of them. So what doesn't work great? There are at least two constant irritations. The first is that the app refuses to remember state properly. This means if the app terminates for some reason (memory pressure, OS update, app update, ...) nothing about your state is preserved (ie what you were reading, where you were on the page, and any stack of links that might have taken you there). This is unacceptable for an app whose entire purpose in life is to act as a version of an ebook reader, ie a container for long-form content that may be read over a long period of time. The second problem is that the app doesn't implement the kinds of features we want in our electronic readers which make them better than printed documents. In particular it does not provide any sort of lookup function (eg look up in a dictionary, search for more info on the web) for words and phrases in the text you are reading. Both of these might seem like minor complaints, but for someone like me who does a lot of long-form reading in Feedly, like I say, they are a constant source of irritation.
