I love this game, except... – DOKDO Review

This game is one of my favorites I’ve ever had, and the one I’ve been playing the most for the past few days. The game looks amazing, has pretty good controls, and is all around fun to play. However, a few things bump it down to 4 stars. First, and this is the main reason, is that when traveling between islands, it’s impossible to avoid getting swarmed by multiple enemies, two to three, even four at a time, and losing most of your health, forcing you to either go back to your previous island to heal or just go and try to get to your goal alive and capture it. It does let you respawn, but it costs in game currency or a special item, which you have to buy (unless you get it from daily gifts). And although there’s no penalty to dying other than going back to the previous island you were at, it can get frustrating trying to get to a certain island, only to die and have to go over and over again, which can take a good amount of time. The second small part is that some of the designs of parts of the ship dropped the ball. For example, the last ship body upgrade looks terrible when compared to the previous iterations. The previous designs all held onto the classic pirate ship design, with the high masts and sails, and the ship thinning out at the front (I’m not that good with ship lingo). But, the last one just has some now tiny and odd looking sails popping through a closed top (the sails aren’t changed by body upgrades, it’s just that they go through the ship top oddly), and you basically look like a potato sailing through the ocean with tiny masts and oddly large sails. Other than that, however, the designs of the ships are solid, the islands are for the most part creative and unique and look pretty good, and the gameplay is solid. If those two points were fixed, this would easily be a 5 Star review, and I hope that the developers can at least skim over this review and try to make these things a bit better. This game is still super fun, though.
