Fantastic game for a Mr. Robot fan – Mr. Robot:1.51exfiltrati0n.ipa Review

The title was fantastic, from the musical theme to the writing to the mechanics. Let’s get the bad out of the way: the “waiting for text” mechanic got old fast. When I sit down to play I don’t want one or two minutes of gameplay, only to have to wait anywhere from 5 mins to 24 hours to get the next text. Often, I’d open the game to play during my lunch break, do all I can in a minute or two, and then I’d get the notification for the next part after my lunch break was over. Due to that, the game was lengthened to take me over a month to finish, artificially! As a gamer, the mechanics were also too simple. But, to respect the art the way it is, you couldn’t write the same story in novel format or as an episode of the show, it had to be told the way it was. Now for the good: the story was phenomenal. The people you interact with felt like real people with real stories. You had hilarious “side quests” like a group chat you’re roped into that you don’t want to be a part of. You get to know another side of Darlene. You interact with Elliot before he learns the truth about his relationship with Darlene. You see pictures of the characters that aren’t in the show. You learn about one of the server hosts that E Corp uses, AirDream. And you socially engineer smart people, dumb people, and apathetic people. I really liked the experience, and despite the dumb mechanic where you had to wait and a couple of long repetitive parts where I clearly failed and “lost the game” where it made me start the section from the beginning, this is one of the best app experiences I’ve ever had. Playing a game about using a phone on a phone is a wonderful idea and fits into the world of Mr. Robot perfectly. F Society
