Could be great – Google Assistant Review

Google assistant is fantastic at answering questions and that’s about it. For home automation is has the serious flaw of not knowing which room it’s in, even when you go through the effort of assigning it to one. If you say “hey google, turn the lights on”, and you are standing in the kitchen talking to a google home that has been assigned to the kitchen you’d expect the kitchen lights to come on. Alas you’d be wrong, for every light in the house will turn on (assuming all lights are connected to some sort of smart hub). By contrast, Alexa nails this correctly. Siri behaves like Google, having no concept of a Siri listener assigned to a location. Beyond this, Google assisting fails at certain tasks if you’re using a G Suite account. For example, it cannot read calendar information from a G Suite account. This is baffling since Alexa can. Google wrote assistant and G Suite... how does Amazon support this and Google doesn’t? It boggles the mind... If google solves some of these extremely frustrating problems, the platform will become a lot more compelling, as the conversational component does feel a lot more natural than any other assistant.
