Good app for learning and basic simulation – EveryCircuit Review

I’ve been using this for a couple of years now, and it works well for visually reinforcing concepts you may have learned in class or while reading tutorials on the web or elsewhere. It saves a lot of trouble of having to breadboard simple circuits just to see the mechanics of how a particular circuit works. Couple of improvements could be made though. Workspace, even in the paid version, is still a tad small. You either have to very carefully plan out where to place things to keep the schematic compact, or you’ll be moving parts in the middle of a design just to make room. There is no way to adjust the y axis on the scope function, so it is constantly rescaling that axis when you make adjustments to a component’s value. Not so much a problem with DC, but trying to observe any kind of waveform you can’t really see how the amplitude of the waveform is changing like you can on an actual scope, except to watch the (rapidly changing) scale on the y axis. There are some quirks that sometimes give erratic results or throw up an error when you try to run them, usually a quick search on the web produces a work around, but just be aware that sometimes even relatively simple circuits can cause the app problems even though you may have a perfectly functioning physical circuit.
