Love it, just needs a thing or two! – Power Apps Review

My technical background going into this was being an expert with SQL & Excel, intermediate with VBA/JavaScript, with some occasional Python/C# usage. Building an app always seemed intimidating, and I can testify that PowerApps makes it as simple as it can be. I’m able to use Connectors to hook up to dozens of data sources (such as SQL Server, Google Sheets or even Basecamp) display & filter it in data galleries or editable forms, and use Microsoft Flow to pick from hundreds of actions, creating a seamless process that works extremely well. Everything was surprisingly straightforward to me, and I didn’t spend much time (if any at all) spinning my wheels on how to build some sort of functionality in my app. Just get creative! There’s a significant amount of documentation online, plus a bevy of other user-created apps that you can reference when building your own. Only caveat is that you need to know its limitations before diving into app creation. Currently (12/5/17), it’ll only grab the top 500 rows of data tables you connect to. This didn’t outweigh the pros of using the service, all it required was some aggregation on my end of connections. I hope some additional functionality will be introduced soon, because that would enable widespread usage of this app at my company. From what I’ve seen so far, Microsoft is consistently releasing updates (improving performance and adding functionality), so hopefully I’m in it for the long haul. Great job Microsoft! Looking forward to more.
