Incredibly Intrusive – Venmo Review

This app is incredibly intrusive. It back-doors you into letting it view your contacts, then, without notice, it automatically “friends” EVERYONE in your contact list who is Venmo, sharing all your transactions as a default. You have to opt-out of having private transactions shared with everyone on your phone. The process to “un-friend” everyone is difficult and time consuming. Syncing the app to your bank account is more difficult than most similar apps (Mint, PayPal, etc.). Once set up, the transactions are quick as easy. I have yet to be paid using Venmo, so I don’t know how easy or difficult it is to get the money from Venmo to your account. Overall, I am very surprised that this has become a popular money sharing app. PayPal is extensively better and gives me more confidence that my money/bank accounts are protected.
