I wish I could love this game – Sacred Legends Review

The title really says it. I want to like this game a lot. I loved the console and PC Sacred games. They had fun stories, good gameplay and were just wonderful games. This mobile version loosely shares a story line with those games, and some character types, but just continually falls short in almost every way. The gameplay is mediocre at best. You auto move between groups of mobs. The only controls available to you are special attack buttons. Opponents are chosen for you. Your only contribution is sequencing the auto attacks. Many scenarios require “allies,” but all of the allies are AI controlled. Even if you have friends listed as allies, there is no mechanism to play together - you’ll just have an AI copy of their toon in your party. Which then begs the question of - if all the allies are AIs, why bother having allies at all? But wait, there is a PVP arena section. Surely this would give you some multiplayer action! But sadly no. Again, all your opponents are AI copies of the toons, even if it’s real friends that you have as allies. There is no actual PVP and the rankings, because of that, are simply a joke. The freemium model is annoying - but that is also my bias. I don’t like freemium games that open with splash screens advertising their latest “deal,” or push in-game purchases all the time. In this case their great discount of in-game currency for *only* $39.95. Which is about what you would expect to pay for a decent console game, not just an installment on a far inferior mobile game. It is possible to play at much lower cost, but you will continually run out of stamina- and patience. This could have been a great game, and it will provide some amount of enjoyable playtime, but overall it’s just disappointing.
