It works – MRCOOL Remote Review

Another update: the MrCool people did eventually get back to me, and worked with me to resolve the issue. Apparently a weak wifi module was the culprit. They sent me a replacement and after plugging it in, I have only had one incidence of the unit showing offline. So, so far so good. Upgrading by a star based on customer service responsiveness and willingness to work with me til the issue was resolved. Update: the app stopped working, instead sending error "the ASYN reply does not exist." I called MrCool and they were worthless - said they get back to me the following day, and of course he didn't. I reinstalled the app, then paired the unit again. Same result. I finally thought to reboot the wifi network the unit is on, even though that network is operating just fine - speed tests are normal and I've been streaming HD video and music through it without issue. Lo and behold, that did the trick. Apparently the DIY unit's method of staying connected to an otherwise fully operational network is unstable, despite the app showing the unit online. I'll be glad when they finally upgrade this app such that it actually works. Original review: Installed a MrCool DIY 24k over the weekend, and chose the brand partly because of the ability to control it via the app - very important for my application. About a 3rd of the time the app shows that the unit is offline, although in subsequent attempts the app can usually get its attention. The fan speed switch on the app doesn't show which speed the fan is going, and I'm not even sure it works from the app. The turbo button usually says that the feature isn't equippd to work with my unit, then other times it works. Nether feature that changes the air direction work, up and down, or right and left, although I know that the right and left feature really doesn't work on the unit, even via the IR remote control. The app paired with the unit, but not exactly according to the instructions, which I suspect were written for a past iOS version that isn't current - I couldn't testify in court how I got everything to pair, but on my second try everything paired successfully, so ok. So basically, you can usually...USUALLY turn it on, turn it off, switch modes auto-cool-heat, and change the temp, and just about every other function either doesn't work or only works every once in a while. So all-in-all, I'm glad that this exists, because the basic ability to turn on my AC from 400 miles away is an absolute necessity for me. But it barely exists in a functional form, and anybody wanting advanced features? Lotsa luck. REALLY looking forward to a much-improved version 2.0, SOON please? IF there was a 2.5 star rating, that's what I would have really given it.
