My favorite tool for creating classroom community – Skies Learn Review

After 4 years, SKIES has had an incredible impact on my teaching and my students’ course satisfaction (7am community college calculus), including for students requesting accessibility accommodations. Despite the time, students find my lessons engaging and will share pictures of their work taken during class, so I can provide instant feedback to my students while they’re in class attempting problems. I started by importing textbook powerpoints and inserting clicker-style questions, but over time replaced them with my own content, which was easy to tailor to my students’ feedback. It’s easy to add wide range of media within the app, so students remain engaged while working through the lesson. Plays nice with other apps and embedding web links so you can link to existing work. Students can also make their own lessons or digital portfolios. Making lessons actually becomes fun and students feel comfortable sharing their work. It helps me build classroom community and bring in a flipped-classroom component to my lecture. Differentiation is built in because students can review and post questions or look ahead and answer other students’ posts, a typical phenomena. which helpful students often do with encouragement. I have worked with the designers along with input from lots of K-12 and college classrooms, so smart protections, distinguishing teacher work, course rosters/sections, and gradebook features give you the ability to grade many forms of participation.
