Flawed but enjoyable. – Adventure Beyond Time Review

This game feels like it came straight out of the 1990s. The music, the sound effects, the 3-D rendered still-slides, and even the Black Chancery opening typeface make it feel like a PC game rebooted from 1996 for iOS. Surprisingly and refreshingly long for a free game, this one keeps you engaged and guessing. There is a lot to explore, and the puzzles range from simple to very difficult. In fact, some of the puzzles are a little bit too obscure… even when I read the helpful included hint guide, I still wasn't quite sure what to do on at least one of them at first. Also, the game sorely needs some form of internal screenshot or note-taking method… I ended up using pencil and paper or screen capturing and flipping between the Photos app and the game to accomplish some of the more complex puzzles. The inventory system and navigation are also a little bit finicky. Still, if you are a fan of Myst-esque point and click puzzle adventures, and you are willing to forgive some absolutely atrocious spelling and a completely underwhelming conclusion, this is totally worth your time. You will probably get several days of entertainment out of it if you don't take any of the hints. It definitely feels really old-school, but it is one of the better free games in the genre that I have tried from the Apple Store.
