Poorly executed – PhotoTime - automatic face tagged gallery with smart keywords search for organizing your everyday moment Review

I want to love this app, I really do. I love the idea of tagging photos. I love this feature in Apple's own Aperture software for OSX. Why more developers don't build this in to photo apps is a mystery to me. It's not only extremely helpful in finding older, related images, but fun. The main issue I have is that the app forces you to wait until all of your photos are uploaded to their servers and "indexed" before you can start editing and adding tags. This makes the app less than useful as you literally have to wait (often for long periods of time) before you can do anything. The other problem I have with this app is that the built in auto tagging is a joke. It literally looks at a photo and tags it with the most ridiculous (often errant) tags. This sort of defeats the purpose of tagging in the the first place. For instance, it sees a photo of what looks like 6 people sitting around a table having a meal (the photo is indeed myself and 5 friends eating in a restaurant). The app automatically apply tags such as, "meal", "food"... which is fine, but it then goes into errant overkill mode, applying tags such as, "disco" (huh?), "diner" (it wasn't a diner), "china" (not sure why it thinks it was China especially since the image has geo data), "smile" (nobody is smiling), "meatloaf" (where does it come up with this stuff?), "nightclub" (uh, no...). The list goes on and on for this, and every other photo it uploads. Why does it have to apply such idiotic tags? This isn't helpful. It's just plain dumb. It applies all sorts of absurdly errant tags to every one of your hundreds, perhaps thousands of photos. In the end, you spend more time deleting the ridiculous tags than actually adding the tags you want and searching for and enjoying your memories. The app should really stick to simple, broad categorical tags and let the user fill in the details with extra tags as they see fit. Meatloaf? Are you kidding me? You can't even see what's on any of the plates.
