Spectral Souls – Spectral Souls Review

I'm definitely glad that I wound up purchasing this. I read quite a few reviews before I did, and they did not do the game any favors. But being a fan of the development team and looking for another strategy RPG with MFi support, I took the dive. Now that I've stuck with it for a couple months (and I don't believe I'm anywhere near completing this game), I'm so glad that I did. At first, it was pretty confusing, and I could understand why the game got such poor reviews. But like a lot of great things, it took some time to grow on me. The depth is great. At first, I thought it was basically just depth in the fighting/battle mechanics, but once you get into upgrading and improving your weapons/items, the game really opens up. The controls are not very intuative. That's to be expected, seeing as how this is a PSP port. If you can deal with an isometric view and dpad for movement, you shouldn't have any issues. If you have an MFi controller, the controls are as near perfect as they could be. If you're a fan of the genre, the price point shouldn't surprise you. It offers up quite a bit of depth and over 100 hours of campaign play alongside hundreds more in side quests and replay value (4 different endings, all dependent on your movements and choices in-game!), and while, yes, that does include quite a bit of grinding, it's far from being a grind fest (I found myself grinding less than in FFT).
