Beautiful game with a great theme – Ortus Regni Review

Ortus Regni can be as brutal as the period from which it takes its theme. Treachery, assassination, risky tournaments, wars, invaders from the sea. What I like best about the game is the way these elements of its theme, depicted in gorgeous medieval art, manifest in the gameplay. There is a learning curve to understanding how the game and cards work, but fortunately the app includes all of this information and its easily accessible (arguably even more accessible than the physical version since you simply need to press on a card to see what it does). I recommend doing the training a couple times, then playing a few practice games against the AI until it clicks. I wish I could zoom in on the cards at the table (especially my opponent’s cards—if there’s a way to do that I haven’t figured it out). That said, the game works well, costs nothing, and has entertained me for hours.
