In need of a major rebalance – Dream Quest Review

One of the most fun aspects of playing any roguelike is learning from your deaths. But besides how you build your deck, there seems to be no further strategy in playing besides the order in which you play your cards. There also seems to be an over-reliance on monsters that simply discard cards from your hand or worse. Exiling cards, replacing them with curses, monsters that chain ridiculous combos, etc. There are very few ways to play around your opponent's cards (unless your character has an ability that allows them to bypass the monster completely). I love games that are hard, but there has to be a few more layers of strategy. Maybe when I unlock all of the cards the game will be balanced, or maybe I'm playing this game completely wrong, but I've completely hit a wall in progress where all I can do is grind achievement points to unlock cards and it feels like I'm cheating. This game does have a hook. I'm rapidly closing in on the 100 death mark. But man, it would be so much more fun if the game didn't boil down to a card chucking match. Side note: The game difficulty doesn't seem to change anything. Not sure what's up with that, but hey, if Velociraptor is exactly the same difficulty as Grizzly Bear I welcome the free increase in achievement points. : )
