Great program with minor flaws – Rise - Nutrition & Weight Loss Coach Review

I apologize for the long review but Rise is one of these apps that really require a long review. Rise is a free app that is linked to a premium monthly service and I will review both here. You cannot use the app if you don’t have the premium service so that is why I feel both must be reviewed. I used the app and the service for a little over a year so I feel that I can give a qualified review. So with that said let’s get the review. The app functions wonderfully. I have had very few issues with the app crashing. The app is pretty much picture based. You snap pictures of your meal and upload it to Rise and your personal coach reviews your food choice. Your coach will then approve the food choice or offer advice on better choices. This is all viewable from the dashboard of the app. It’s easy to use and take about 2 days to become an expert at using the app. On to the service review now, price of the service can differ depending on if you used a promotion to start your service or if you came in at the standard fee. I paid $47 per month for the service. This sounds like a lot of money but it really is a great value. Your licensed nutritionist will build an eating plan around your personal needs based on many factors. Some of the factors are nutritional needs such as diabetes, activity level, overall goals, and food preferences. My goal was some weight loss but more athletic performance. My coach was absolutely amazing! Within 3 months I had dropped 15 pounds and felt better than ever. My ½ marathon performance most definitely improved. I would highly recommend this service for someone that wants to lose weight and isn’t sure how to go about it. They teach you to live a healthy life and don’t diet. Now for the negative aspect of this service. If you get a bad coach it is highly frustrating and will leave you wondering why you pay to be talked down to and generally treated like you are in boot camp. This happened to me when my coach had to take a month leave. I nearly quit the program the second day with the new coach. Fortunately you can however change a coach at any time with no questions asked. I most definitely got a great benefit from being in Rise. For the rest of my life I am wiser about knowing what choices are healthy and what choices are not. I was shocked to see that sometimes what appears to be the healthy choice was really not. With that point made here is the final negative for the Rise business model as a whole. It took me 6 months working with my coach and I no longer needed Rise’s assistance. We are pretty much creatures of habit and we mostly eat the same things week after week. After 6 months I had a healthy eating routine down and my coach had helped me to understand how to listen to my body and eat more. I really don’t see anyone getting a great deal of benefit of this service past a year. Overall I would highly recommend this service and app for 6 months to a year. I really benefited and anyone that wants to lose weight or generally live heathier would benefit.
