Good in the basics, but lacks depth and variety – Learn HDR Basics free edition Review

I downloaded the free version of the app and then upgraded to the full version after watching the free videos. The free version gives you three short video trainings to wet your appetite. To watch the other 4 videos you must fork out $6. I am new to HDR photography and I learned quite a bit about the basics of HDR in this series. On the upside the author is a professional photographer and the examples on the lessons are top notch, as far as photography is concerned. It was very rewarding to watch a real photographer's work flow, instead of just someone just tinkering with software, and "borrowed" images. On the down side, the workflow is very formulaic. "Wash, rinse and repeat" for all the video examples. Once you watch the first video, you pretty much have learned everything you were going to learn in this series. The series is advertised as not really delving too much into technical details, but I wish that the instructor had spent more time talking about the "why". Instead it seemed like he was often tentatively experimenting with settings, without a complete understanding/explanation of why he was choosing those settings. I also wish that there was a greater variety of subjects than just outdoor photography as this series does. Overall, this series seems a bit expensive for what it offers, and while you might learn a few basics, you might need to go elsewhere for a more in-depth discussion of HDR photography.
