Good Gateway into the world of Roguelikes... – Hack, Slash, Loot Review

This is a nice little "beginner level" game for anyone not familiar with the world of roguelike RPGs: NETHACK, ADOM, DUNGEON CRAWL STONE SOUP, etc. HACK, SLASH, LOOT is not as robust as the titles I just mentioned but it's not meant to be; it's a "coffee- break roguelike" which features all the core elements of a roguelike game: procedural/randomized dungeons, permadeath, randomized loot and items, turn based mechanics, and insane difficulty level (you will die over and over. A LOT). If that's not your thing, then roguelikes are probably not for you. Otherwise, read on. The graphics are beautiful, with nifty pixel art (though I agree that it could be bigger). The music/ soundtrack might be the best I've ever heard in a roguelike. The UI is simple and friendly. The game is VERY random...even more so than most roguelikes. That may turn some people off. As I said earlier, be warned: the difficulty level is insane. And if you play the Wood Elf Archer (who is rather Nerf'd in my opinion), be prepared to die often as he misses his shot A LOT (50% chance he misses his target). You can also play as a Human wizard, and human female Saracen (as well as many unlockable characters). HACK, SLASH, LOOT is a fun, addictive game that has nice graphics, grade A soundtrack, intuitive UI, insane difficulty level, randomized dungeons and loot, and permanent death. In short, it's a simple roguelike that's an awesome time waster. If you enjoy this game, look further into the rabbit hole of roguelikes: BROGUE, TOME4, ANGBAND, ALIENSRL, INFRA ARCANA.
