Not (yet) worth a paid upgrade – Where To? Review

While the app was due for a visual design overhaul (to align with iOS 7 & 8), that doesn't really warrant a paid upgrade with no real additional functionality. But when I discovered a companion app for my Pebble smartwatch that you can use for directions and "keep your iPhone in the pocket while walking or driving" I ponied up. Boy, was I disappointed to find that these directions consist of - literally - just the direction (and distance - in a straight line). There is no real-life use case where that information can be used as a substitute for driving directions, allowing you to keep your phone in your pocket. Unless your car can fly, you probably shouldn't just aim toward a restaurant and floor it. Or you and the restaurant are in the middle of an open field. Even walking it's questionable if you can use the direction and as-the-crow-flies distance to get to a destination. So it's a bit perplexing that they would market this as a way to navigate while keeping your phone in your pocket. It's actually misleading. Hopefully, it's just version 1.0 of this feature and they plan on displaying actual, navigable directions in the near future. Definitely don't upgrade just for the integration with Pebble. It's cute, but currently fairly useless.
