I’ve been using this app for a couple years and it has a fun story line and helps you want to get out and run on the days when you don’t really feel like it. Overall very fun app.

Needs to work on Apple Watch without carrying your phone!

I used to run with this app all the time—it’s fun, engaging, motivating, and I always looked forward to finding out what came next in the story. Once I got an Apple Watch, I was looking forward to running without having to lug my phone around. The disappointment at finding this app won’t work without the phone is huge. Please please please fix this! I miss hearing the story on my runs! The second it works on its own on the Apple Watch, I’ll resubscribe and be a subscriber for life because this game is just that good and that fun. I miss it but not enough to carry my phone—being able to ditch that on runs was the only reason for getting the Watch with GPS!

Great, but some real problems

Using the app is great. Over time, the story gets confusing, and the characters run together. This is especially because it’s playing while you’re exerting yourself and only ever paying partial attention to the details. Still, the zombie chases spur you on and keep running fresh. The watch app is absolute garbage. It hasn’t worked in about 5 versions of this app, and I’ve been running the latest hardware and OS on both the phone and watch. The watch app never loads, and when it did many years ago, it still required the phone to be nearby. The watch is no longer new tech, and there’s no reason this shouldn’t be fixed by now.

I love running & working out, but I find it hard to get started a lot of days—there are so many chores it feels like I need to do first, and then I goof off doing the less-fun stuff and never get to the run. This game is so fun I blow off my responsibilities and go for the run first (and then do my work much more efficiently in the reduced time available)!

I love the storytelling and pacing of the prompts. For the first time in a long time I focused on running and not how tired or out of shape I feel. I really like that I can set constant pacing if I’m biking indoors but still want to use the app.

I want to love this app. I do enjoy the immersive storyline however the app sometimes requires in-run maintenance that causes me to stop to keep it working. Lately it won’t continue to the next downloaded mission automatically. I have to stop my run and restart it with the next mission in the queue. It will not connect to my Apple Watch. I have tried everything. I contacted support and they said other people have found workarounds. I don’t want a workaround I want my watch to connect. I track my time with Nike’s app since it is reliable. I look forward to the new stories. They are very well done. The developers need to put some time into the functionality of the app for something that is truly five stars.

I e been with ZR since they were on Kickstarter and in my opinion this is the best gamification app I’ve ever found for exercise. There are days I don’t want to run, but I HAVE to know what is going to happen to Runner 5 and my friends in Abel. The story is so immersive I have cried on my runs, I have laughed out loud, and I’ve been angry. If you are looking for something to make your walk/runs more enjoyable this is the app for you. There have been a few glitches in the app over the years but they are always trying to fix it, and their customer support team is wonderful if you have a problem.

I’ve been playing this game for several years and I absolutely love it. I can honestly say that it helped me start running and I’m now an avid runner and in much better shape. The characters are great with real development, and the story is awesome. I want to go more often to find out what happens next, and even building up the base is fun. This is the best app I’ve ever had.
