This was probably bound to happen sooner or later: YouTube Kids now shows ads before videos - so occasionally I notice my 2-year-old watching some ad instead of our chosen content. This earns a 1-star rating for the app, and I hope others follow suit. After I started using YouTube Kids a long while ago, I noticed that YouTube was always fresh in my memory. Whenever I wanted to explain something about the way the world works to one of my kids, I opened YouTube to look for visual examples. YouTube has always been ad supported, so in this way I thought that YouTube stood to make more from advertising as a byproduct of the ad-free Kids app. YouTube has severely degraded the quality of the Kids app by introducing ads.

I like the idea of YouTube Kids but it’s been executed terribly. My three year old thinks that it’s normal for Peppa Pig to drink bleach and I found 8-year old watching a video with a guy screaming curse words just yesterday. Shameful.
