How to get the wireless app to EXTEND your Mac's screen

Khal Moro

I spent hours trying to figure this out. At first, the only thing the wireless app would let me do was MIRROR my MacBook Pro's screen. That was useless to me. I want to EXTEND the screen so I can use my iPad Pro as a second monitor. Here is what finally worked for me: The only way I was finally able to EXTEND my Mac's screen onto my iPad was to first run the free WIRED version of Yam. So, to be clear, the setup is as follows: Run Yam (free wired version) on iPad, install and run Yam version for MacBook Pro, and connect MacBook to iPad with cable. Then, on your Mac, in System Preferences (this may open automatically) under "Built In Retina Display" click on the Arrangement tab - that is where you will uncheck the box that says MIRROR, and then move one of the blue boxes that represent the screens, so the two boxes are side by side. (You can also change the relative position of the screens by clicking the Yam icon which is up at the top of the screen on your Mac > in the drop down list find > "Display Arrangement" > and in that menu select the position you want (Left, Right, Above, Below). That should be it - you should now be able to move your Mac's cursor off the side of the screen in the direction you configured the placement of your iPad, and the movement will continue on your iPad. Now, once you get the wired method working, you can close the Yam free wired version of the app on the iPad, and then run the Yam Wireless app. Again, this should be working just like the previous app. Once you confirm that everything is ok, then you can disconnect the cable that is connecting your iPad to your Mac. Everything should be ok from there. That's how I was able to EXTEND my Mac's screen onto my iPad using the Yam wireless app. I hope this helps someone.

UPDATE please: allows users to choose which device makes the sound on wireless mode

I really like the application I bought both the wireless and wired connection. The trial was annoying. It was very inexpensive. If the wireless application could give users the option of choosing which device (computer or iPad/iPod etc.) produces the sound. I would give this app 5 stars ⭐️.

Update your app so I can actually use it

It took me forever to connect my iPad and my MacBook Pro and all it gave me was the mirror lcd. Doesn’t work if you want to use it as an extended monitor. Will ask for a refund.

Works perfectly

No problem setting up, works great

Looks good so far...

Yay, Gromit!

I had been using Air Display on occasion. As my second monitor just died, I fired up AD to maintain some level of productivity. It crashed my MBP. Every time I tried to start it. What a rotten development. Tried this. Was initially not happy that it reset the MBP display resolution. I had had it at maximum scaled resolution. If I’m asking for more screen real estate, why restrict the resolution that I can use on the main monitor? It turns out it is not restricted, I just had to tell it I still wanted the maximum scaled resolution even when YAM air is running. So after changing that setting, it all looks good now. My only complaint is that I don’t see any way to monitor the battery on the iPad when using it as the second display.

Love it!
