Write On

The Mac Observer review - Write On is one of the best educational apps we’ve come across. Teachers will also love it..
Category Price Seller Device
Education $0.99 Bacciz,LLC iPad

Write On is the only writing app that lets your child practice their name, follow proper strokes for both Block and Script letters, has multiple lines so they can see their progress, sounds in both American and UK English, letter sounds, phonetic sounds, animated letter strokes, cute animal images, write in multiple colors, erase last stroke, and more.

The ABC Alphabet Song at the home page is worth the price of the app, it is a lot of fun, and your child will be playing it and singing along for hours. Write On can help your child to write the right way. Kids must learn to write using the proper strokes.

Write On improves over all of the writing apps by allowing your child plenty of space to practice either with the finger, or with a stylus that works with the ipad. No more wasting paper or buying expensive writing books.

Full version includes;

Alphabet Song page, Writing page, Word page, Practice page, and the Easy to Hard Strokes mode.

Alphabet song - Charming song that teaches the alphabet and shows the letters as it sings.

Writing Page -Display the proper strokes for all of the letters - Show your child how to properly write both the Upper and Lower case of all of the letters - You do this by simply touching the letter

Sounds for the letter and its phonetic sound - simplified for young children.

Each letter is associated with an animal - Very Cute animals for each letter.

Word page - tap the word in the Writing Screen and the Word practice screen slides in so your child can practice their name. 8 letters max.
** 8 letters max

Practice page - Large Practice screen can be used to have your child practice writing their name, or writing anything they want. - Save the word.

Easy to Hard Strokes mode - Have your child start from the easiest strokes to make a letter and then advance to the harder strokes. The alphabet has a proper order, but to learn to write there is an alternative sequence so kids don't get frustrated.

Option to add more than 70 animals so your child can learn and practice over 100 animals, some with animations

Wish I could rate it higher

I purchased this for my my daughter so she could practice writing her name. Her name is nine letters, but the practice only allows for eight letters max to be input. I wish the developers would have made this known in their description. There is also no means for her to know if her writing is acceptable or illegible. Practice without constructive feedback is a weak form of instruction and is one of the reasons some teachers (and some parents for that matter) are ineffective in K-12 and in post-secondary education. Some of the educational children's apps for the iPad provide intelligently thoughtful feedback. This app gives no feedback at all. Nonetheless, my daughter finds it entertaining, so I believe she will benefit somehow from this app, especially since I am always with her when she is practicing and can give her individualized feedback myself. It's not a poorly designed app, but it's certainly not one I would recommend without reservations. If there were a lite version, parents might better be able to decide if this app would be helpful to their children. I would also recommend having your child use an iPad-safe stylus (especially if your school district is foolishly abandoning the teaching of penmanship in class).

This is a great app!
PSD teacher

As a teacher, I love this app! Best feature is being able to create my own words for kids to practice, like their names. The added cursive option is great for older kids. But there is one small error that needs correcting - the cursive practice word "tiger" is misspelled. It has a q instead of a g. Once that's fixed, this app is definitely a 5-star in my opinion!

Cursive words misspelled
Illibrium

Great app for children, great graphics, animations sounds, ease of use and functionality, but the cursive q is often used in place of the cursive g. (alliqator!?). 4 star app if that were fixed. 5-star app if it provided feedback on if letters were written properly.

Great App

Daughter loves this app. Can't get enough of all the different characters and the ability to practice her letters. Loves the abc singalong part of the app.

What happened?
Notdabod

This app used to be so awesome, but now they so badly want us to buy their 75 new animals that they can't even have the animals be animated like they used to be! My kids are very upset by this - please fix this app!!!

Miss the animations
SP12180

I purchased this app because my kid loves the animations and isn't old enough to write yet ( he is 1). He keeps tapping the animals and nothing happens....please fix it!

Dislik
tctripp

Cute voices and like the graphics. Extremely disappointed by the letter sounds you are teaching. I am going to delete the game because you are teaching incorrect sounds. The very first letter..."a is for antelope uh, a". "a" doesn't say "uh". It is taught in every school room as "a" like the beginning of apple or ant or as in cat. The next one we listened to was z. It doesn't say "zuh". Zuh is what zu says together. Z says "zzzz". Don't teach basic letter sounds incorrectly please.

cool update!
