Was a great game, but now has issues with power creep.

I started this game right after they had released the second expansion with salamanders, iron hands and raven guard. I uninstalled after the space wolves/custodies/thousand sons dropped. At the beginning it was pretty well balanced and beginner friendly. You didn’t start out with a hard counter for everything, but you could make due if you made optimal plays, and you would win roughly 50% of the time. The power creep has started getting out of hand in the prospero expansion. New cards are extremely overpowered relative to the old cards. Cards with immunity to targeting, immunity to attacking, cards that are just straight up cheap and powerful. My win rate dropped to about 25%. Occasions where I just don’t have an answer for a given threat has increased exponentially. This problem is compounded by the fact that there isn’t a crafting system. You get cards from crates and doubles are exchanged for gems. You spend gems on cards in the daily shop that are selected randomly every day. Doubles from crates gives gems equal to 1/4 the cost to buy a copy in the shop. Shop values are: 20 for whites (5 from doubles) 100 for greens (25 from doubles ) 400 for oranges (100 from doubles) 1600 for golds (400 from doubles) The cards you need are usually orange and gold, and the cards you get are usually white and green. What this amounts is that you grind for peanuts and you HOPE that you get what you need from random crates and you HOPE that you get what you need from the random daily store. You can go several months without getting what you need simply due to RNG, if you get it at all. This wasn’t a big deal before the last couple of expansions because you could at least deal with most threats if you played optimally. Now that you encounter untenable situation regularly without the new cards, the current system just doesn’t cut it anymore. This was a great game, now it is a decent game, and no longer worth the grind for me.

The idea of this game was great. Application, not good at all. Pick your side? Meh more like pick your cards. The game is sold as a choose your side during the Horus Heresy but it’s actually more based on the cards you get. Sure you can “fight” for the side you choose but with many restrictions or scenarios that don’t make any sense. Not to mention all the in store purchases are overpriced as usual and that’s counting the reward for win to in game money purchase ratio. PvP idea is not bad for a card style turn based game except for the lack variety. Everyone, including bots, has the same Warlord unless you were lucky enough to grind for one or spend money (I wouldn’t ever) to get a new one. As stated in other reviews, certain things need rebalanced but won’t be. Maybe in time the game will be better but as for now, no dice (get it Gamesworkshop? Because your games use dice) Good luck to all those who try it out though. Someday a good Horus Heresy game will come out.


1k Sons need a nerf

The Thousand Sons are ridiculous. If they can get a second energy bar for their sorcery, the Space Wolves should get a second bar for their savagery. It’s dumb and needs to be adjusted for better balance.

Pretty fund, fantastic voices from the characters. Psychic is way to over powered. They gain two energy plus 2 psychic energy every turn. Plus they can use it 2,3,4,5 times a turn to heal themselves or their units. Other hero's are limited to one ability per turn. Strongly suggest nerfing the psychic energy to gaining 1 per turn.

The bought decks are insanely powerful and have multiple cards that cost 1600 gems to buy(you’ll never get this much without $$,and they are randomly for sale so you can be sure its impossible to match the bought decks) gems to create. Its a real shame because this game is great...need a card crafting mechanic to balance pay to win decks. Would give this 5 stars if it wasn't so pay to win. Developer response suggested ‘I was having trouble progressing’...not the case just annoyed at OP PtW, maybe address that in your response instead of insinuating that I’m bad at the game:/

Wonderful card game entry in the Warhammer universe

Excellent game, great story, wonderful strategic value. A couple of suggestions for UI improvement: everything seems a bit cluttered, with tons of symbols that aren’t really explained, especially in the card collection screen. Having a record of cards played in matches would also be a great addition. The art style doesn’t exactly pop, either, like Elder Scrolls Legends does, but that would be a large undertaking to improve.

I’m a competitive player in a top 50 lodge. I love this game but I have lost 300+ trophies from unexpected crashes and glitches that have ended my turn before I actually ended it. Until these are fixed my review is fixed it ruins the competitive game.
