Buggy app breaks iOS 11 iPad recently used apps tray

Morac

After running this and allowing it to always run in the background, I noticed that the recently used app section would always only display 2 apps where previously it displayed 3. 3 apps would actually briefly display and then one would disappear. This persisted even after restarting my iPad Air 2. I finally figured out that this all was constantly running and kicking other apps out of the recently run apps area. After I set the permission to never allow location and disabled background refresh this behavior stopped. The app seems to serve no purchase other than being a remote so disabling background usage seems to have no side effects.

Doesn’t work

TinTin858585

On one iPad, I Can’t even get passed the first screen! “Agree and start” button doesn’t work! On others where I had previously added my tv and used the remote before, the remote no longer works: “An error occurred with the application”!

Broken and Useless

Update 15: Still the same broken useless freezing crap. Update 14: Still freezes. Enjoy your one star, dummies. Update 13: Loading DLNA shares still freezes the UI for multiple seconds because the "programmers" are doing networking on the main thread. Enjoy your one star, incompetent clowns. Update 12: Another version that hasn't fixed the hanging issue. Dreadful. Update 11: The app still hangs for 15 to 20 seconds when doing anything. Launch it, it hangs. Try to load the DLNA shares, it hangs. Try to list the files, it hangs. Another crap app by a crap company. 11 updates and they haven't fixed this issue. Obviously they couldn't give fly rat's behind about these reviews. I just hope someone deciding on buying a Sony product who comes across this review understands that buying it will be nothing but utter frustration and wasted time. Please do yourself a favor and buy something else. You'll be much happier. Sony does not care about their customers. They'll do anything to make a sell. Once you've purchased something, you're on your own. Update 10: Sure change the name of the app without actually fixing the locking and freezing issue. Lipstick on a pig. This is pure trash just like any other Sony product. Stay away from their hardware and this garbage they call software! Update 9: New design, same garbage, crap app that hangs all the time when trying to fetch DLNA shares. Can't expect much else from the king of incompetent consumer electronics: Sony. Shameful. Update 8: Still hanging and unusable. How many times does one have to say it? Garbage. Update 7: Another sh*t update to a sh*t product from Sony. The full incompetence of Sony on display. Shame. Update 6: This is still broken. The interface still locks up. Sony's incompetence at full display. Update 5: Sure update the app to make TV guide available in Ukraine but it's pointless because it is a useless hanging crap written by incompetent coders and released by a clueless company. How long and many times do we have to tell you people that the app is constantly hanging. You're doing networking in the main thread which blocks the UI. Pick up a book or just read the Apple documentation. Of course you're not intelligent enough to realize you're doing it so wrong. I can't expect more from Sony, honestly. They've proven time and time again that they're incompetent and clueless. Update 4: Yet another update that doesn't fix the hanging. Guys, read this: don't block the UI when performing network operations. That's not OK. Learn some programming and fix this! Stop relegating this stuff to the interns. Hire a proper programmer. Update 3: Five updates that were supposed to “improve the operation” of the app but not one has actually fixed the hanging issue. Here’s a hit: don’t use the UI thread to run background, networking code. That one’s free you incompetent dumbs. Update 2: Another useless update that does NOT fix any of the hanging issues. Looks like it was just updated to clear out the old unfavorable reviews. Shame. Update 1: The latest update was supposed to "improve the operation" of the app but instead has rendered it totally broken. The intermittent hanging and freezing issue of the past releases has now completely broken this app. Utterly useless. Sony are a hardware company and have no idea how, or the competence, to produce software, and this garbage is a clear example of that incompetence. This is the last Sony TV I'm ever buying. No wonder other companies are eating their lunch.

Disappointed

BearTunes

I had a Samsung tv develop an issue after 4 months of ownership, and I was in a position to get store credit and decided to upgrade to a Sony. The remote is overly complicated and android operating system is buggy.... the tv itself is great, but remote, OS, and ecosystem are just as important today and Sony gets a big fat “D” for that. To come to the AppStore to download their smart app to read it’s been stripped down just lessened the value of my tv about $1500. Many cheaper brands have better support than this.

Works with STR-DN1080

Lklingle

As stated in the title this app allows me to control my strdn1080 receiver. Allows the easy changing of inputs, volume and other controls

What purpose is served by keeping this app?

caseyjoanz

Since all the functions that would have made this app worth having are no longer offered, who keeps this app on their desktop and why? It thanks me for my continued support. Will that make me want to keep an app that no longer has any discernible function? Nostalgia. Keep this app to remember when it had a function.

Works Great with iPhone X and XBR-65X750D

Ericjay.hilgart

No lag in response time, has all input buttons needed, running iOS 11.2 and this is fantastic! Easily controls Amazon Prime, Hulu, Google Play Movies, Netflix and Crackle. The keyboard makes it easy to type instead of using the darned keys on the standard remote.

Great, but...

Swe1001

I have two side by side Sony tvs, and use this app to control them. Everything works great, offers both remote control types that come with the tvs, and allows direct launching of installed apps, features which I find essential and which make this free app invaluable. However, the only thing I’d like is if I didn’t have to keep connecting to the tv when I leave the app for a while and return to it. I would prefer if the app just left off where it last was. It sometimes does this, but to be truly useful as a replacement to managing multiple physical remotes, it would be nicer to not have to constantly connect and choose a remote face. I just wish it would pick up where it left off last time the app was used.

iPhone x
