Decently fun App, flaws in execution

JohnMazza316

So I downloaded this app because one of my friends got hooked on it. I enjoyed digging and burying treasures, and at a point I got over 130 treasures. I was making progress and having a good time with TQ, but then something happened that made me want to quit the game for good. A specific treasure hunter who was/is much higher level than I am drove through my town and dug up around 90 of my treasures over the past few months. He singled me out because I buried my treasure in his "territory" which is over 60 miles away. He singled me out because he didn't like the fact I buried in his back yard. Obviously he has been playing the game for years and is a much higher level than I am. I feel like new users starting the game at this point is an exercise in futility because there are treasure hunters who are so high of a level than you will NEVER be able to compete with them unless you spend a ton of money buying gold and doubloons from the store. This is just my two cents. I think the game is one sided to people who have been playing for years, and newer people come in with a HUGE disadvantage. It was disheartening to see all of the treasure I have collected over two months wiped out in one day from a pirate who singled me out. It made me not want to play the game anymore. "Ain't no body got time for that." Games are supposed to be fun, right? What a disappointment.

Tough Game

First, I like this game a lot - fun and addictive. However, I cannot rate it higher as it is brutally difficult for new players. Experienced players can see your treasures but you can't see theirs until you level up to their bury levels, and that earns you the right to pay high gold values for their maps and/or to disarm their traps. Many higher level players don't hesitate to sweep in and collect your treasures shortly after you bury them (though there are a few white night mentors out there who are helpful and greatly appreciated). You can spend real world $ to accelerate your leveling up. The other in app purchases are helpful if you can afford the cash. Bottom line, unless you live in an area isolated from other players or you're willing to spend serious bucks to level up, be prepared to hoard the treasures you find for the long haul or find some way out of the way place with an Internet connection to bury and earn in game gold and hope nobody comes near. I've been playing for almost six months and have a hard time keeping things hidden for more than a few days. The game support team is fantastic and the Facebook community very helpful. It's where you'll find many of the experienced "white night" players willing to help out and mentor new players. I'd love to rate the game higher, but it's just too tough to keep a stash buried and progress in the game.

USED TO BE great!

This used to be my favorite app.... the reason I owned an iPhone AND bought an iPad. I had been a faithful player since the beginning. As with most great things, a few "improvements/ tweaks", turn it all upside down. First, the developers thought it keen to introduce a reward system that, basically, rewards the strongest (top) players in the game. Their reward? What struggling, & new players would need to pony up $5 to afford. Oh! But it's OK, because "no ship can win consecutive weeks in a row"..... so it's, "this week Ship A.... next week, Ship B.... A.....B....." you get the idea. Since there are multiple "stats" to win from, it's also introduced an influx of cheating (people swapping treasures around for treasure/ accuracy boosts), which I don't feel should be rewarded either. Lastly, the developers recently changed their TOS. A portion now states something along the lines of, "You can only use one iOS device per player". Now, I'd be OK with this, if it were this way from the beginning. However, linking in to their social media outlets previously, it was almost encouraged. I won't delve too far in to the reasons one may need a second device, but once you play long enough, you'll understand. Basically, I can no longer play, without my second device (maxed out treasure room/ congested area & can't trigger drops with main device). The developers asked for feedback on this, but mine seemed to fall on deaf ears, without a response. Now, on their social media pages, they seem to have a tone of "older players, lurking in the shadows, are the ones with multiple devices (shame, shame)". I can tell you I want my in-app purchases on that second device refunded! Heck!! I'd like a refund on my iPad/ data plan.... but that's MY stupidity, for developing a wrongful trust in KittyCode. I'm not sure what happened. The developers used to be responsive & in-touch. Now, they seem to only cater to those who say nice things on FB. If you're in a secluded area, you may have fun with this. Otherwise, you may spend 3 years of religious playing, to end up feeling frustrated & ripped off. If they can right these wrongs, the app would have a 5, hands down. But the tone seems to say otherwise. I'll check in once in a while to see if they do. Until then, I'm freeing myself of this frustration.

Beware of Private Property!!!

Royalknight5

Please be advised that some of these treasures are computer generated and therefore sometimes placed on private property. I contacted the company and they replied that you have to use common sense when finding the treasure. This caused some grief in our local community as treasure was placed on private property and upset the owner very bad when someone went to find it. Otherwise sounds like a fun game.

Treasure? Not really.

Beimsaufen

I have traveled from Lake Superior to Lake Ontario and only found 5 treasures. 4 were in the same city by the same player. Too boring of a game if there are very few treasures to be found. No way to really get going in this game. If there were at least some random system generated treasures available for newcomers, that would at least help hold interest and get them going. Bottom line is that, in its current state, you will waste more time downloading the app than you will actually playing it.

Horrible Account Management

Tuxiteer

I can't even begin to explain how frustrated and disappointed I am with this app. Every time I restore my device or upgrade my phone I need to go through days of communications with Kitty Code to restore account. Other apps in the App Store use the Game Center information. Why not this app?!?? Don't waste your time or money on this app like I have.

Super fun, great for whole family or all by yourself. Best app I've found so far.
