Helpful yet flawed

I really do like this app but it can be a little confusing for beginners. I wish it was a little more like the duolingo app. 1. It should be able to get different answers like duolingo, and just say “this works too”, like duolingo. Because if it asks me “where” it doesn’t specify whether it wants me to answer là que or où so I just have to guess. 2. If the question is “which?” It should accept lesquelles, lequel, laquelle because (unless I am incorrect) they are the same. And if I AM incorrect, I would like it to give maybe a small explanation, nothing fancy. Like why is it better to use “que boivent-ils?” instead of “qu’est-ce qu’ils boivent?” It should either accept both, or specify WHY using the first is better. I do realize that this is a lot to ask for in a flashcard app, but it would be so so great if it had these features. At the very least #1. Until then, this app is better for vocab: nouns and adjectives, not so much sentences and grammar.

FREE. SIMPLE. CUSTOMIZE-ABLE /backflip

Awe Heal

FREE w/ NO Ads. /backflip need I say more? but there IS more... SIMPLE to use. Find a deck - “star” it - and it’s added to you desktop. Tap the deck and learn. but it gets even better... I can make my OWN DECK OF FLASHCARDS!!! Because I use multiple Apps to study Japanese, the random so-called “beginner” words & phrases are vastly different between Apps. So to help ease my boggled mind, I create (private) decks that I can enter the word/phrase and go back to it after I research its meaning & how to write it & use it in everyday life. That’s right, research! If you’re serious about learning a language, a dictionary is a must. I use an App for that too. So for all you snivelers, make your own deck if you don’t like what others have offered to you for free.

I love this app!

Perfect flash card app

Ianor

Does everything it's supposed to do. You can build your own flash card decks and use ones created by others. Just what I wanted.

Okay flash card app

somewhat upset reviewer

I like how the app has flash cards that match Duolingo courses and lessons, but I still preferred Quizlet.

Good tool

Nye47

It's a good tool to help with Duolingo vocabulary. However, they need to work on differentiating cards for words like "but" and "husband" that have two possible answers.

Great start

I love the TinyCards platform and the design principles that guide the work DuoLingo is doing. The app is delightful and simple to use, and I'm truly happy that I can create and share my own flash cards. I am concerned though about the curation of user-generated content and the fact that so much of it is created without any eye to how it will eventually be used. TinyCards staff recently chose to highlight one such deck and it quickly became apparent that the way the deck is designed with questions on one side and complicated or simple answers on the other simply cannot work with the way the app is structured. One question asks for a date, another for a short response, when a card is juxtaposed with potential answers taken from other cards, the syntax is such that it's clear without knowing anything about the cards that only one answer could be correct. Furthermore, the app constantly shows you the cards and asks you to indicate whether you remember it or not. If a card deck is built correctly there is no reason to ask users to indicate whether they know the card. This really breaks up the flow of using decks. TinyCards should simply present that card again to the user and if the user answers incorrectly continue to show it.

Very helpful app

I love using this app so far as part of my Spanish Duolingo journey. I am a tad bit better then a beginner but not quite intermediate. With that said, I do really enjoy seeing the words I already know as well. I like to be able to click the “I already know this word”, the word just really sets into my brain well at that point. It’s like flash cards and pop quiz’s all in one. Thanks tiny cards! You guys are doing a good job :)

Good companion app

It is basically flash cards. For people familiar with Duolingo. Nothing really special or extreme. Has quizzes though which is nice. Not many options but whatever, it is hard to make one for every language. Now I have a list of suggestions from my experience and other reviews: - Add an ‘slow turtle’ audio option like on the app. - Add the “Another correct solution” or something of the sorts like that to Tinycards as well. - Add an option to turn off ‘Beginner Mode’ and by that I mean the swipe to move forward thing that shows up below the cards sometimes. It’s slightly annoying and according to someone else, it impacts their ability to learn.

Great product with fixable flaws

mrflip

This is great app, probably even better than its sister app Duolingo. However, there are a couple of flaws: * The biggest one is that, on missing a card, it is whisked away before I can even compare my wrong answer to the correct one. It should stay on screen until swiped away. This needs to be fixed. * For language review, a better presentation of the initial card would be to have me type it in from a display of the answer. That is, the card would say “good: хорошо” and make me type in “хорошо” even on the first try. For any complicated phrase, the current mode has me see it, flunk it, type it in from the prompt which disappears as I type, and then asks me once more. * The second introduction of a card is also too easy. The app might show “там” and “собака” and then immediately make me choose between them which is “dog”. Better to show “совака”, “собаку”, “собака” than the trivial memory test from two seconds ago. These cards seem more useful for later review than for immediate introduction. * When editing a deck, display the front and back together and allow immediate editing of both. Perhaps an edit mode where the front and back of each card sit joined together on left and right, with pairs of cards scrolling horizontally as present. The current interface is too cute; a clumsy spreadsheet would be better than the current implementation.
