Great start – Tinycards - Fun Flashcards Review

I love the TinyCards platform and the design principles that guide the work DuoLingo is doing. The app is delightful and simple to use, and I'm truly happy that I can create and share my own flash cards. I am concerned though about the curation of user-generated content and the fact that so much of it is created without any eye to how it will eventually be used. TinyCards staff recently chose to highlight one such deck and it quickly became apparent that the way the deck is designed with questions on one side and complicated or simple answers on the other simply cannot work with the way the app is structured. One question asks for a date, another for a short response, when a card is juxtaposed with potential answers taken from other cards, the syntax is such that it's clear without knowing anything about the cards that only one answer could be correct. Furthermore, the app constantly shows you the cards and asks you to indicate whether you remember it or not. If a card deck is built correctly there is no reason to ask users to indicate whether they know the card. This really breaks up the flow of using decks. TinyCards should simply present that card again to the user and if the user answers incorrectly continue to show it.
