This Is Not a Test is an apocalyptic graphic novel gamebook that pits your survival skills against the mayhem of doomsday as a strange death gas threatens humanity. Like a Choose Your Own Adventure, each panel of this RPG gamebook poses you choices that move the story forward. Create your fate by choosing your own path through the doomsday simulation -- the choices you make will unlock new paths in your quest for survival -- that is, if they don’t leave you dead in the chemical wasteland. Your selection of skills, the items you scavenge, and the survivors you bring will unlock possibilities and set you racing to survive the apocalyptic doomsday mayhem!

The base version of the game contains the original black and white background art, a gruelling life regeneration timer, and banner ads. The pro upgrade removes timers, banners, and unlocks color background art for every single panel of the story.

"A lot of unique flavor from the get-go"

"The writing in This Is Not A Test stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the art."

A gamebook by definition, This Is Not a Test mixes RPG elements with a Choose Your Own Adventure styled graphic novel. Choosing skills, scavenging items, and bringing companions will affect your quest for survival. All scenes and all of the user-interface is hand-illustrated by amazing comic artist Jeff Edwards, in a gritty, apocalyptic style. The writing is blunt, pulpy, and cruel, hurling you into the skin of a victim racing for survival in the mayhem of the final moments of humanity. As a gamebook, it is shorter and punchier than its long-winded rivals, with a focus on the amazing art. As graphic novel RPG, its mechanics are streamlined, and won’t have you drowning in numbers. As a survival game, it pushes you ruthlessly toward your eventual demise in the death gas — unless you do something about it.

Explosions are heard in the distant skies and a terrible death gas looms over the population. An emergency broadcast announces a MANDATORY EVACUATION to the mountain shelter of Fort Eisenhower. Doomsday is at hand! Mayhem is immanent! The way is treacherous, and the quest for survival will be difficult. What will you do?

Furry note

Just a good survival game

Nifty art, gritty story
Strangelander

If you like choose-your-own-adventure games/books at all, this will be right up your alley. Even if you don't, for 99¢, it's worth a play. The comic book art is very good, the story is suitably grim and apocalyptic, and the interface has some nice touches that track things and make replaying quicker. The writing is average, with numerous minor typos (e.g. "burried"), and too often actions don't produce any special text -- surviving with multiple companions doesn't change the epilogue at all, for example. But, if you're a post-apoc fiction buff or a CYOA fan, grab it. You'll get your money's worth. P.S. I'm trying to imagine a more boring, mismatched app icon, and failing.

WOW
BEEFY SANDERS

THIS APP IS AMAZING GOOD STORYLINE AND YOU GUYS DESERVE MORE SUPPORT

Fantastic story telling with many choices
Da dalton

Don't let the simplistic gameplay fool you, this game has some really interesting choices and drastic effects from choosing perks. My only complaint is that it doesn't tell you that you can scroll down on some scenes and that you have to tap the item even if you bought it. Edit: after playing a few times I made it to the helicopter and didn't have any binoculars so I wasn't able to do anything, no options to do anything. Please fix this:)

Great!
emeraldfairy71

This is a great game! The artwork is gorgeous and the story is pretty decent! On my old iPod it crashed a lot but hopefully that will change with this 5s

Dementia
Xotikos

It doesn't remember where I left off, so I can't play it. As far as I did get looked interesting.

Seems unfinished.
PiLingual

No real description or clear instructions for just about anything. Also doesn't seem like there is a way to save. Seems like a cool idea. Could be fun but it's essentially an unfinished or broken game.

Fun! Challenging!
A LEGIT FAN

I find myself thinking about the different possible endings; wondering how I could have solved a problem with a different skill or made a different choice with my inventory. Fresh and interesting. Well worth the price.

Too many bugs
Bearded Spectre

Ran into multiple progression blocking bugs. Unfortunate. Audio was lacking. Art and idea is good.

A Short adventure with a lot of future potential
Tomb raiden

A great choose your own adventure style interactive book. Fans of Lone Wolf and the fallout series will enjoy.
