Problem is that Audio stops after 1 article

SoccerFC

The audio playback on iphone no longer auto plays the next article after the prior article completes. Please fix this.

Poor Audio Support

When you start the audio up after a break, the app often starts halfway through a story you’ve already heard. It’s very frustrating. The “track list” vs “playlist” feature is unnecessary and confusing. Sometimes the next story just won’t start. This app is often unresponsive to controls in my car. No other apps have this problem. In one case I hit pause, and when I hit play the audio from an ad started playing along with the story. Finally, the lack of a scroll bar in dark mode is a long overlooked feature. When you’re paying this much for a subscription to this newspaper, you expect the apps to work!

Love the Economist, but app is buggy

It’s the same great magazine but on your phone. The content is fantastic, but the audio part of the app has been buggy for years. Right now it only plays one track at a time, then you need to manually start the next article. Previous bugs persisted for eons. I’m hoping this one gets fixed faster.

Can no longer control the audio from locked screen.

What did the latest update do on the audio function? The app cannot automatically play the next, which was fixed after the iOS update.

Audio needs technical improvements

I want audio to advance automatically to the next story after the current one ends. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. I have no idea why sometimes it decides not to. This past weekend, no controls at all appeared on the lock screen while articles were playing, so I had to unlock, enter app, and advance manually after each article. Today the desired lock screen controls are back. I don’t at all understand playlist vs track list. There is a 15 sec back button but no 15 sec forward button. The track list should allow one to see the full introductory header, not just the tongue-in-cheek title, which is often funny but not a good clue for what the article is about. One should be able either to flag the current audio article as interesting or else share a link to the current audio article with oneself so that one can remember to look for details in the article text or graphics when one hears something intriguing. I do like that one can download an entire weekly edition’s audio at once and listen offline while commuting, cooking, exercising, doing mindless activity, etc. But this is only effective if the articles advance automatically and are easily controlled via lock screen or other simple means. A sleep timer would be helpful: play for 30 minutes at bedtime, for example. Also, while the readers of the main text are uniformly excellent, I find the voice and tone of the woman who reads the witty subtitles to be harshly grating - like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Increasingly buggy

The app has become more difficult to use over this years. Today November 21, 2019 when listening is interrupted by a call it does not return to playing. It no longer shows consistently on the screen of my iPhone when locked. So I can’t advance to next article without opening the app. It also does not play in my car every time via Bluetooth. Please change your developer and review process.

Audio broken as of 4.3.5

Dbrouss

I use the audio feature of this app, but it is now badly broken. New problems s of 4.3.5: - When one story audio ends, the next does not start automatically - When music is paused and started again using Bluetooth, it is usually a different app that starts playing - Not all selected stories shots up in the playlist, so it is difficult to tell where you are IOS does not appear to see this as an audio app, so it seems to start other audio apps when i hot play via Bluetooth, at least that is my theory. I also cannot enables background sync in IOS, maybe that is also the issue. I buy the Economist solely for the audio version for my commute. If this is not fixed by February when my subscription is due to renew, i will cancel. I hope it gets fixed.
