I was hoping to replace Final Draft with this, but there are .FDX formatting issues that need to be resolved. For example, if you have a character heading at the bottom of the page, the app should automatically move it to the next page.

Works OK

This will be a nice product in (near ?) future. As of now, it is functional; however, annoying bugs keep me from viewing wildly favorably. I am skeptical that the other reviewers put it through the paces.

Best iOS app for novels

Jelly o the month

Best writing app I've found. Pretty much has everything I need. I switched syncing from Dropbox (which was good) to iCloud (which is great!). The UI took a little getting used to, but now it's my go-to app on both iOS and OS X.

Not practical to use with Scrivener

GLP Fan

I anticipated I would be able to work on a Scrivener project on my Ipad and also be able to work on the same project on my airbook (using Scrivener). However, after purchasing this and attempting it, and reading about the attempts of a few others, it appears this is not likely to work. First, you can only read in Scrivener files using iCloud, because storyist cannot use the scrivener file format created by dropbox. However, storyist does not sync well with icloud. The folder created to sync with icloud never appeared on my other devices. The forums suggest this is a common problem. Second, it's not clear that storyist saves Scrivener files. So you can't create a file on ios storyist and then save it to Scrivener. You can import a Scrivener file, but you can't sync it, and you can't create a file and then save it to Scrivener. Not really practical. If I ever figure it out I'll update this.

Not my favorite

hsb1977

I used this to edit Scrivener files on my iPad for a while, and it...did that job, but very poorly. It changed formatting. I couldn't copy and paste into it without losing italics. Very haphazard. It was the only game in town for a while but now that it's not, I'm never using it again.

Storyist Works Beautifully

mwjac

I have used Storyist for years. It keeps my manuscripts, research, and notes efficiently organized. I love that it has the option to sync to iCloud. I often begin writing on my Mac and finish on my iPad. Storyist and iCloud let me switch between devices without fear of the dreaded version conflict. I love coming back to my Mac and finding that my changes are there even if I hadn't saved. Could Storyist use a new coat of paint? Sure. It's looking a bit dated next to Scrivener's new app, but it does its job. It does it well.

Storyist lost manuscript

Lilac unicorn

I had a manuscript on this app and now it's gone one day it was there and now you changed the look of the icon and my entire story is gone. I'm very upset because I put a lot of time and effort in this story.

really nice app!

Storyist is really fun to use, and designed with thought and skill. The interface is just perfect - and I love that the correct formatting is all explained, in their excellent and easy instructions. And the correct formatting is completely provided for our use in their templates (although anyone who wants to can go in a different direction with no problem). Also, export options are plentiful. I can't believe I'm going to recommend this over the other main app out there, but yup, I like Storyist better. It does more of the things that are meaningful to me, and gives me a sense of security that's important to me. That fear of doing something wrong has vanished. This is the one!

Have the Mac app? Too bad; you still have to pay for the iPad app.

icantwait48

I love this app and I've been using it on my MacBook Air, so I know how effect it is. I've been hesitant on buying the iPad version because it didn't show a "download" option even though I already had a version of it. I bought it just now as a test: yes, you still have to buy the iPad version. If this can be fixed, it would save others a lot of money.

Great Writing App

Michael Hansen

I love this app. When I first decided I wanted to write a book, I bought both Storyist and Scrivener for my Mac. I just couldn't make up my mind. When Storyist released the iPad version of their product, I kind of let Scrivener fall by the wayside. I love Storyist and what I really love is how it uses iCloud to sync between my Mac and my iPad. As I use my iPad Pro more and more, I find myself using it almost exclusively to write. I'm so thankful that Storyist is such a solid product on iPad. I highly recommend it.
