Adequate but overpriced

Arkweld

The single player campaign is only about ten maps long and isn’t that difficult. The multiplayer might be good but whenever I look for a game I rarely find players. It looks okay but the game is not optimized for iPad at all. Text is tiny, buttons are small, rotation swiping is erratic and taps have no margin of error. It’s fortunate that there is an undo button because I lost track of the number of times I sent a marine to a different place because the I missed the button on the toolbar. You can’t even select your marines unless the grid square is visible. So clicking on their head doesn’t work even if you can see it on screen. Those in-app campaigns should have been included because without random map generation there isn’t much replay value. Don’t pay over $10. At the sale price of just under $5 it evens out.

Unable to download

I had really hi hopes for this game. I love 40k so was excited to play this game, based on what I have heard about the PC version. However, I have not been able to download it to my iPad!!! Every time I try to down load it I get the message you have already paid for this app it will download automatically. That has yet to happen. So in my opinion this is not worth the $9.99 I paid for it!!!!

Amazing Game, Port could be better

Lil Pips

I have played the original board game, the PC game, and this version. If you're on the fence, and like GW or tactical games, buy this game now. It is amazing. Each map can be played so many ways. Like the boardgame, there are not a ton of maps, but the ways you can play each one are numerous. The multiplayer is very good. The only downsides are that the text is VERY tiny in this version, and some things, like the movement numbers in each grid, are absent in this version. With a little more polish this app could be as good if not better than the PC version.

Worth it but takes space

Bowl User

I loved the board game. Have looked for a replacement ever since retiring it (too little space for it in the house these days). This faithfully replaces it. No need to paint miniatures and set up and take down. Big memory sucker but worth it. If you've played the original, in my opinion, you'll be pleased.

Great Warhammer 40k Title

DuBd44

Very faithful to the classic board game which typically runs around $350+! Take on Tyranids with a team of Terminators if both very hard and equally satisfying. Prepare to get very frustrated but it is totally worth it. DLC also add to the game with additional campaigns and character skins. Overall great game! Anyone who enjoys the 40k world will love this game!

Good but crashes a lot

Axebox

Space Hulk is a great table top game. The developers have done a good job with the conversion. However, the game is unplayable on ios. Let's say you've just inflicted genocide on gene stealers during your turn. The game crashes. Upon resuming the game starts you at the beginning of your turn, and you may not roll so lucky the 2nd time around. Beyond frustrating. Seems that the developers aren't addressing this bug.

Much better now:

TheDudeAbided

UPDATED as of v1.5: Space Hulk is a classic board game based pretty much on the Aliens 2 scenario: hordes of alien nasties vs. a few heavily armored space marines on a Giger-esque derelict spaceship. The game itself is ported pretty much intact, which is the good news. The bad is the tutorial/manual is incomplete; simple stuff like what a Terminator needs to roll to hit vs. an alien is not stated anywhere. But you will pick it up after a few games. Tough gameplay, seems easy until everything starts going wrong ;-) There was a serious issue with slow and laggy gameplay, but I'm happy to report it was improved considerably with the first update, and even more so in later updates. Game plays quite smoothly now, especially if you remove the kill-shot cut-away animations. The only remaining problem is it's a huge memory sponge, taking up about 3.4 gigs when installed. This was a hard one to recommend in the past due to the bugs, but I can say that it is much better now. If you like Space Hulk, you won't be disappointed.

Prepare to lose, repeatedly

CAP198462

Immersion: strictly combat based. Though calling it tactical is off as tactics count less than how players choose to queue up their troops at the start of the battle. Difficulty: It's turn based and although it does permit adjustment and gives a fairly good description of what is changed, don't expect it to make the game a pushover. Expect to lose, a lot. On the plus side, the interface won't get in the way too often, and icons do tend to make sense, especially with some experience in X-COM. Lasting Appeal: Low. suggest waiting for Warhammer 40K Space Wolves.

Obsession

Malachi715

I loved the original game. When I was 15 my brother had it. I just told him about this version. We had the old school FPS too. This goes far beyond those as far as fun and playability. Don't get me wrong... I like the setup and physical die rolling, but it takes too much time for me these days to meet, set up, and play. Now I can. I hope GW makes a game that let's you use virtual miniatures, stick a code in the minis box so you can use the minis you buy in the video game. Until that day this format will be my pastime. If you are not a 40k fan, but you like chess, gore, giant guns, and rich sci-fi story lines and depth, I highly recommend this game. Also don't worry about the in app purchases, no gold or any of that bs. Only game and chapter expansions, which I plan to buy as soon as the main campaign is over. Buy it.

Excellent game!

This game really captures the feel of the boardgame. I really like the HUD view from each marine. Great alternative to the real board game when no one else is around.
