Tedious and frustratingly hard
Wade Tregaskis

I see that they chose to remain strictly faithful to the original board game. But it just doesn’t translate well. On an iPad it becomes far too slow to play, with lots of pointless interstitial animations, associated loading stalls, etc. The fundamentally glacial gameplay may have been okay when you were physically moving pieces around the board and playing with other people, as a fundamentally social game, but in a single-player game it’s just.. boring. However, my biggest gripes are around the inconsistencies in the subject matter. Giant steroid-filled power-armoured uber future warriors? Check! Die instantly on contact with anything? Check! …wait, what? You have less than even odds of surviving any melee combat, which is both stupidly unfair to begin with - given you’re outnumbered five-to-one or more, most of the time - and particularly frustrating when you’re given melee-only marines. You end up having to not only push through the level with fewer marines than you should have, but sometimes you have to carefully protect the moronic melee-only ones to boot, to avoid losing the mission due to casualties. And to add insult to injury, these space marines honed their targeting skills at the Stormtrooper Academy. It’s comically inconceivable that a power-armoured marine with massively advanced auto-targeting, firing a huge calibre machine gun, down a long corridor four feet wide, could miss completely six times in a row. I don’t buy it. Lastly, even assuming you aren’t pulling your hair out three missions in, there’s little incentive to keep playing. The missions are basically all the same - move from point A to point B while not dying, fighting the *exact* same single type of NPC every single time - and there’s no continuity between them - no experience points, no levelling, no items to find and keep… heck, even death isn’t permanent - important characters come right back the very next mission anyway, without so much as a comment. I really wanted to like it. I was a great fan of many of Games Workshop’s board games, and I very much enjoyed the iPad version of Warhammer Quest. “Space Hulk” is a black sheep in the family. Skip it and go get Warhammer Quest instead.

The Emperor is my shield!
Hotspur12

I was disappointed to read the negative reviews for this game so I decided to write one of my own. I never played the board game and the only other WH40K exposure I've had is DoW2 on the PC; however, I am an avid strategy game fan and found this game to be atmospheric, engaging, and stimulating, with great graphics/audio to boot (especially the voice acting!). In fact, it inspired me to learn more about the universe and I even bought a novel about the Space Wolves. Don't expect an RPG-like experience and you should have a great time with this: it's easily earned a place in my top five favorite strategy games on the iPad.

Fun
Nonstopguy

I like the app as much as I like the board game.

If Expecting Something Action-Packed...
Volnon

...look elsewhere. This game is for people who like slow, careful gameplay. It is a very atmospheric puzzle game with growling alien monsters and armored, slow moving space marines. If you want a game that takes some time, looks really cool, and demands more thinking than quick reflexes, this is your ticket. Mine runs GREAT on my iPad 4. Yes, it uses a chunk of battery juice, but that's why I own a battery charger. : )

Dont play till bugs and equal content fixed
Nunmaker

Ipad owners, dont buy, they have made content that you cant use, would have been the best to play with. Also, every time they update, you lose whatever games you were playing against others. The update just wipes out games in progress. That is just not right.

Good Rendition of Board Game
Malt_Reaver

If you are a twitch gamer or used to all satisfaction video gaming don't play this. If you loved the Space Hulk board game and want a thorough tactical thinking challenge - play this.

Awesome
LeadHead83

It took me a few tries to fully understand the best way to play, but once I got the hang of it. I would personally like to see a much more instructive tutorial in the beginning. I love the warhammer 40k world and with a little persistence I'm having a great time playing.

Crashes every time!
Driftingonareed

I can't even make it through the second prequel mission because it crashes every time on my iPad Air. Soooo disappointing.

Faithful recreation of the board game.
Steve Occhiogrosso

Been playing this game for a while bought a few of the DLCs. (got one or more to get) It's very faithful the original boardgame. Which is great. However don't be expecting an intense action packed experience, it's turn based. Been running on iPad 4 haven't had a single issue with crashes in my single player or multiplayer games.

Great turn based game
Strategy Central

If you don't like the speed of the animations, make them quicker in the menu. I never played the board game, but it is like the mission style of Xcom over and over again without the research. I don't get the negative reviews. This game is exactly as advertised. Quality, turn based strategy. Give it the tiniest bit of patience and the game flows great.
