I'm absolutely in love with this app and how easy it's making it to learn and memorize the sounds of the English language. I love that it gives an example for each sound by showing you a word using the sound. I also like the quizzes because it gives me some transcription practice. Very helpful!

This app has a very specific purpose: making the connection between phonemic transcriptions (using the International Phonetic Alphabet) and spelling and sound at the word level. While it is great to see both American and British English included in one app, the learner must accept that practice and quiz sections will only accept one transcription (even if the word has variable pronunciation with alternate transcriptions). The central pronunciation chart has a few technical flaws but is still quite usable once you get used to it. This could be a useful tool for the student of phonetics and phonology seeking practice with transcription. As a pronunciation training tool, it is less promising due its lack of description of articulatory features and being limited to single word utterances. If you're new to the phonetic chart and need some help learning it, this is a great app. The quizzes are fun. Give it a try...

The proportion of the screen in this app is wrong. All you see is a square that shows part of the app's screen not the entirety of it. I am not sure what is wrong in its development but it does not work properly.
