Comes up short on the American side
Captain Pariah
First impression: GREAT potential. I teach this and have been looking for an app like this for ages. Sadly, this one comes up short. First: the IPA usage for American English is weak and imprecise. Many of the sounds connected sound like a Brit trying hard to make an American accent (especially the -er). Last: more could be done with the interface (one thing: don't override screen orientation--it's irritating).

The American IPA chart is voiced by a non-American English speaker. The app mixes pronunciations from various dialects as well. Very disappointed.
Academic not practical

The technical aspect of sounds is good, but it does not give access to enough words to make it useful for daily application. If you are not sure how to pronounce a word, you have a smallish chance to find it in the app. By the time you figure out that it is not there, you will have dropped the app altogether
It helps begginers!

It helps with recognizing the sounds..it doesn't teach much, but for begginers it's helpful!
