I tried to remain loyal to other chess apps, but as those apps still show 2014 or 2015 for their last update, this developer not only keeps his chess app up-to-date, but now he has added tablebase support!!! i am simply amazed at this latest update...i was so impressed with this update that i bought his latest opening (mega) database as a way to show my appreciation for the work.

I've looked at all the other top rated chess programs on iOS and this is my favorite. I use it mainly for analyzing games. The engine appears to be quite strong. The feature I like best is the arrows showing the top three candidate moves, which visually I find more helpful than just a list of variations. Other programs do this too but don't seem to be as strong, unless I log on to my desktop and use Fritz or some other program. I do have a wish list, mainly the ability to see the complete variations and the ability to drop into them and back to the main line. Hopefully this will be added at some time soon. Overall though, I highly recommend this program.

I love the idea of offering multiple good move options in advice mode when show arrows is activated in options. Stockfish is a strong chess engine!

Love this app. Very clean and smooth. One thing though... do you think it would be possible to update Stockfish with its most current development version? The most current one is 60+ elo points higher than Stockfish 8. Thank you for this amazing app!

I compared this app against both HIARCS and Shredder in two round-robins: all at Elo 1500 with 5s/move and at max strength for each with 10s/move. Smallfish went 8-0, undefeated! Not bad for a free app!! And it even is designed for both the iPhone and iPad with a different payout for the latter device. I can't recommend this enough. You only need one chess app on your phone/tablet - Smallfish! (OK, maybe two. If you also load Stockfish it has an excellent library of games you can load and play through of many of the masters)

Sometimes, Stockfish restart the chess pieces that you were playing into beginning. Smallfish left where you played and never restart the game. It's even free. Yes, you're right. It is the strongest. I download both Smallfish and a Stockfish and this app is the best. 5 stars. It even uses opening books and states which opening book is better by using percentages. It even stronger than the strongest human chess player. Good job. You are only behind Komodo by only 5 ELO. Stockfish and Smallfish chess rating is 3389 ELO, Komodo 3394 ELO. Not a huge difference. Want to rate 10 stars. Good job Ted Wong. And yes, it is even better than most chess apps that you have to pay for. Customers, save your moves and download this app. In you don't have iOS 10, download this app using Stockfish 7 or download another Smallfish app for iOS 6 which is 3228 ELO. Slightly weaker but still stronger than the strongest chess human player and most of the chess apps. Keep it up, Smallfish

This is a fantastic app, especially since it is free. Regularly updated to use the newest and strongest Stockfish engine (which is the equal of the strongest chess engines in the world, free or paid). Beautiful, simple interface with unique analysis graph. For every move, shows who is winning and by how much in a easy-to-understand graph. Virtually unique among free programs in allowing users to add comments to moves. Very helpful in going over your own games and making notes on where to improve. Developer has responded very quickly to emails pointing out bugs and suggesting improvements. Thanks, Ted!
