Boring, repetative, overpriced

This game is simply the same battle repeated countless times. You can't even beat the AI on the hardest difficulty. You can't control what victory conditions they use, so they just merge together to win wonder victories, and there is literally no way to stop them. This game isn't worth $5, certainly not $15. Massive changes need to be made.

Link to Beyond Earth Frustrating

ChrisWA76

The link to Civ Beyond Earth seems trudging on the surface, but in reality is so frustrating it spoils the experience. It took me a while to figure out how to even log in to (click the 2K icon). Numerous times now, I have logged in and received the message "You have successfully logged in." After clicking OK, that is followed immediately by the message "my2K Connection Issue - You are not logged in" in the lower left corner. I got it to work once - the icon turns green and a new menu option is added - but it has failed more than 30 times now. Going to the my2K website doesn't help either - there are no postings about this on the support page. Neither does clicking the App Support button in the App Store - nothing happens. Very frustrating!

Wasted opportunity

When I first looked at this game I thought of sword of the stars, as far as ship customizing. Sadly there is no variety to shipbuilding, you just upgrade the same stuff over and over till you wind up with a fast battleship, fun the first time around, gets really dull every other time. My other issue is that you can choose different types of victories in the settings but when I set domination, the AI still ends up winning through the other victory conditions even though they weren't selected. Lots of time wasted. I'm upset and full of regret, if I can dissuade at least one person from buying this game that will be of some comfort.

Incredibly buggy

FreddyLosingWeight

Even on my brand new iPad Air , without much memory in use yet. Barely playable. Overall a fine game if it were 1/3 the price and didn't crash constantly. Would not recommend. I'm not even picky. Oh Sid, what happened????

Keeps crashing

PerryPayne216

I liked the game before the last update. Now all it does is crash when I need to fire a torpedo.

Early Release? Okay... Still fun!

I think this game is well conceived and implemented, except for the few bugs others have mentioned (and one I found by accident). Hopefully they're just working out the kinks and will publish an update once they decide that the bug fixes don't make new bugs... Would be well worth the money if the "Victories" settings feature worked as one would expect. Also kinda weird that it doesn't track your scores locally, but I would be happy if I could just play using the Domination setting.

Not up to sid Meier name

Really doesn't pull you in. Way over priced.

It's...okay

Pricey apps and I aren't well-acquainted. But when Starships came up, since it had Sid Meier's name on it, I decided to give it a shot. After all, XCOM turned out good, and 2K was behind Starships, so that's a win. Having played it to both victory and defeat, I have to say...I really expected more. So what is it? It's a lite version of Civilization set on multiple planets instead of cities. Each planet has a benefit, and you can set research priorities and other basic civilization-guiding tools. Overall, the "Civ" aspect is painfully thin; this is more of a strategy/tactical game rather than a nationbuilder. You get to assemble one fleet (yep, one) of ships, upgraded as you see fit, to sling around the galaxy, conquering and defending. This part is a little tricky; with only one fleet, you can't station picket lines or do anything clever like leaving a rearguard. It's all or nothing. Once you've moved a fleet into an engagement, the game goes tactical and you maneuver and angle your ships, fire weapons, deploy fighters, and, in short, command some pretty inventive and entertaining tactical turn-based space battles. The downsides, though, are threefold. One, the civ-aspect of the game is barely there. Diplomacy doesn't really do anything, and there's little to excite an empire-builder gamer. (Veteran civvers, forget it all. There's no customizing planets. You can't even rename them.) Two, the 3D graphics, while impressive, caused a fairly new iPad to start stuttering its animations. And three, there's no story. Zilch. Realistically, this plays more like a popular fanbuilt scenario from Civ 4 rather than a new game on its own. It's good, don't get me wrong. I just expected more. A solid B+/A-.

Should have been better or cost less

DigitalWizdom

I bought this $14.99 game because sid Meyer has a good reputation for making great games. Unfortunately this is not one of them. This is a $3.99 game selling for $14.99. While I like the game the graphics are poor. A major upgrade or a refund is in order.

Great game but is missing a bit of polish

Rambony702

Great strategy game and is fun to play for maybe 15 min. Then it gets old real fast and not worth the price tag. Maybe $5
