Good start

I like the concept but there is not enough information given to understand what is needed to be done. With a few more details and explanations, it will be a fun app and a great way for kids to learn history.

Good for ages 13+

I watched a group of 13-15 year olds play. They enjoyed the creepiness factor of the game, finding clues, exploring old documents, and the rich, zoomable photos. Kids who love history and the Civil War will be be interested. I liked that the game had so many female characters, too, and that you could play more than once. The photo studio you unlock by playing is also super fun--Civil War Instagram!

Super educational, interesting & cool to see actual artifacts BUT glitches!!

MissLCinSF

I LOVE ❤️❤️ all things Smithsonian and just completed one of the Big Fish mystery games about the museum- SO much fun! But.....this is more about education, which is fine, but there needs to be some clear instructions and steps laid out - I figured it out by tapping every single inch. I completed setting two spirits free.....but on the third one, I cannot get to the stage where I'm asked to "choose" the person!! I've tried redoing each step twice now and still it says there's a 4th clue that's uncompleted....the help button doesn't "help" and there's no HINT either...so what happens when you're stuck?! ? It's such a smart game that I was going to share w my sons teachers - what a fun away to learn about History! So please fix! ? Thanks!!

Not for those with no video game experience!

I'm a senior with no gaming skills. I couldn't figure out what to do or how to find the clues and match them up with whom? It says I found one clue, but I have no idea what it is. How about some directions for people like me. I kept opening the box and scanning the photos, but that is all I could do. It was the same objects all the time. HELP!

Good idea, poorly executed

I love the idea, but it is not clear what should be done. I have a classroom of frustrated 8th graders....kids who are pretty tech savvy. While the mystery is great, the need for instructions of how to play the game is a high necessity.

Ripped apart a civil war mystery

Interesting but extremely hard to figure out steps to follow. Can not get to any place to select person.

Got stuck

J.B.L.

Like others here, we found the game fun to begin with but then we got stuck and it just became frustrating. We found all four clues for the first spirit. We are even pretty sure who it is, but how do you select them or set them free or proceed?

Interesting way to experience Civil War history . . . BUT

Leader12345

The premise is good and the information provided is educational and from a variety of views and sources. However there is a big BUT with the program and its execution. As others have noted the instructions are somewhat lacking though I suspect most youth users could figure it out. The main issue is the program stops working when time comes to solve the third book. In the other two once you get the 4 clues you can select the person you think is the owner. In the third you are never given the option. Additionally the section where you can make a carte v crashes the iPad. I give it 3 stars for the premise. If the glitches are banished I would certainly raise my rating. Btw I checked application support and get page not found on the Smithsonian's web site.

I'm like some of the other reviewers. Hard to figure out what to do! Like the educational factor. Once I solved the puzzle of what to do & how to play! I enjoyed. Just needs better instructions. Very interesting.

Well worth my time!

Teaching apps

Unlike many of the reviewers, I was able to figure out how to solve the mysteries. The 3rd book did crash my iPad several times but I kept trying to open it and it did work. I did not go as far as to create my own so no comments on that. I will be trying other products.
