Useful app

DebsReview

This is by far the best pump replacement calculator I’ve been able to find in the App Store, but I really hate the bg/carb sliders. It takes way longer to fine tune the sliders to the proper number than it would to type them in. I wish typing was an option. I also wish it would default the bg to the most recent apple health value or the current value on my dexcom share app.

Love this app! Update?

I’ve been using this app about two years and it’s been led to a sea change in my diabetes control. Thank you! I wonder, though, if you have any plans to make it compatible with the Apple Health app. It would be great to capture my insulin dosing in the Health App looking ahead to aggregating all my dia-information in one place for comparisons, etc. Again, great app, thanks!

LIFE-CHANGING App!

4/2019 Update: A1Cs are in. Since using this app, I went from 7.6 to 7.1. That’s the lowest since I was diagnosed. Thanks!! ======================= I heard about this app on a Diabetes Subreddit. Several members said they preferred this to their pumps and that surprised me. So I immediately jumped all in and bought it. I cannot even begin to express enough appreciation for this app. I’m tearing up just writing about it. For the first time in 5 years (since I was diagnosed) I’ve had consistent days in the 100s never crossing 168. I used to sit around the mid 200s. I feel incredible and I finally feel in control of my health. To each and every developer that worked on this incredible app...Thank you. If you’re thinking about getting this app and have a general idea of your insulin to carb ratio, don’t hesitate. Jump in and let this app handle the math for you.

Good but has errors

OriginalBaughb

I have been on insulin for more than 5 years so I know what I’m doing with this app. I have caught it making an error 2 times in the past month. It calculated IOB at 100% of the previous calculation even though it should have been 0%. There’s no room for errors when using insulin so this is critical and should be corrected immediately.

Worth $$ for IOB alone

There are many options available for tracking all types of data T1D patients need however many don’t include IOB in their apps. I appreciate the flexibility I have while using this app when I’m off my insulin pump. The reminders are also a huge bonus I do wish there was a way to combine Dexcom sensor data into this apps dataset though. It would set this app even farther above the current options available to the T1D community.

Exceptional

I was on a pump for 18 yrs and had to go off due to scar tissue build up. My endocrinologist told me about this app and honestly it is a game changer for MDI. I can’t say enough good things about it!!! It is capable of offering me the important information I received from my pump and tracking that active insulin has truly helped keep my levels more steady. I’ve been off my pump for 6 months and although diabetes isn’t easy on CSII or MDI, this app makes MDI so much easier to achieve really good results. Thank you for developing such a user friendly and amazing tool!!!

Keeps track of all your blood sugars which must be recorded in the app. Calculates the amount of RAI = Rapid Acting Insulin based on blood sugar level, the time the last RAI shot was taken, the amount (gms) of carbohydrate to be taken shortly, the type, intensity and duration of physical activity. Also keeps track of Long Acting Insulin shots. 10-11 settings based on instructions from your health care professional. Reminders of after RAI shots. Continuous decreasing IOB= Insulin On Board. Not perfect app, heavy inputting but very helpful to manage blood sugar.

The best insulin dosing manager.

I have been using this app since July 2013. Literally it has saved my life. The sliding scale method given to me be my health care provider left me with glucose swings from 55 to 375 with a A1cs over 13! For the past 6 years my A1c has been under 7.0. Mostly in the 6.2 to 6.6 range. With meticulous carb measurement of my food intake, weighing all food with an inexpensive scale, I can maintain glucose between 110 to 140 easily with the app’s insulin dosing calculations. I have been using Novolog and Levemir flex pens. My many thanks to the superb app developers and support team. I HIGHLY recommend this app.

Update: Four Years of Use

I've been using RapidCalc daily for over four years and without exaggeration it is the best thing I've ever done for managing my Type 1 diabetes. I was able to adjust my numbers to create a program specifically for me that changes based on my sensitivities throughout the day. I made small tweaks until I started seeing the blood sugars I wanted. I was able to do this over a couple of weeks, instead of waiting months between doctors appointments. This app has objectively increased my likeliness of staying healthy for a long time. I currently use the Dexcom 6 app to track my blood sugars, MyFitnessPal to record carbs of my meals, and RapidCalc to calculate those two numbers into insulin dosages. No more poorly designed PDMs, I do everything on my phone (can’t afford a Dexcom? The iHealth glucometer is cheap and uses an app). I love this setup. Ian's app has taken so much anxiety out of managing blood sugar levels.
