Quiztones uses tones and frequency-altered noise and musical loops (including source material from your own music library) to train your ears so you can intuitively identify frequency boosts, cuts and changes in level and develop more acute listening, EQ and frequency recognition skills.

Quiztones will...

• Improve your mixing, recording and EQ'ing chops
• Sharpen your ears and frequency recognition skills
• Help you achieve clarity in your mixes and recordings
• Develop an intuition for which frequencies to boost or cut
• Learn how to identify and remove problematic frequencies
• Help you identify and eliminate PA system feedback for live sound
• Remove the need to sweep for frequencies in a mix
• Help you get cleaner mixes by learning to use EQ like a pro

Quiztones cleverly uses quizzes to guide you through various training exercises, and lets you track your progress with a built-in score log.

Each EQ quiz includes four trainers:

• Easy frequency boost (+10 dB)
• Hard frequency boost (+5 dB)
• Hard frequency cut (-10 dB)
• Expert frequency boost (+5 dB – 1/3 octave)

Quizzes:

• iTunes/Music Library
• Tones
• Pink Noise
• Piano
• Drums
• Strings
• Strings 2
• Orchestra
• Electric Bass
• Upright Bass
• Female Vocals
• Electric Guitar
• Acoustic Guitar

Each gain level comparison quiz includes two difficulty levels.

Great tool for Engineers
AppleFlexer

Ear training at its best.

Great app
rahipkil

I would have given it five stars, if there have been an autoplay next option. This would give you the opportunity to take your eyes off the screen, so that you make your first guess from what you hear, not from what you see as available choices.

Awesome
Picfh

This is really helpful tool. I would suggest adding lessons on Panning, Compression Ratio, Release, Attack, and Mid/Side if that’s a possible lesson. That would really help.

Highly recommend

Keep your ears "in shape" (functionally not aesthetically). If you don't use it you lose it.

Great app for the price
xaos

This had helped me a LOT. Not only can I determine frequency and gain changes much more easily after using it, I'm able to hear many suble differences in sound qualities that I couldn't before. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it would probably cut the time it takes to train your ears if it had an option to let the exercise keep playing until you tell it to go on to the next one. That way, you could hear the difference after you've already guessed it. That would really help to learn the differences more easily. The way it is now, it stops playing as soon as you guys correctly, so you don't get a chance to memorize how a particular change sounds. That's a pretty big oversight IMO.

Beware of excessive in-app purchase
TheAppDaddy

To unlock even very basic levels, actually, any level other than "easy", it's another $2.99. Really? The screenshots are misleading.

Great app...but
japanmoran

Why won’t the app work in landscape on iPad? And the layout of quizzes seems counterproductive. Start with easy on top and work down to more difficult? A few other things make it seem very unpolished for such an established app.

Couldn’t use Apple Music library
BGFirefighter

Tried this and nearly all of the songs in my library couldn’t be used because they’re DRM-protected. Also started in the middle of the song and looped like 10 seconds. I can’t do anything with 10 seconds of banjo!

I love it
planetarysun

I am definitely making progress, but I wish it kept track of my scores so I could see my improvement over time. I feel like that would be really motivating. Is that really difficult to implement?

Essential for any audio student
jsmithsebasto

Simple to use, great for practicing quickly and frequently, on the go, etc.
