Best overall puzzle app

I've used Puzzazz for over four years and it just keeps getting better. Thank you for the free daily sudoku and kenken puzzles! In addition to free books and online .puz downloads, there's always a puzzle to be done. The app has even motivated me to purchase some puzzles. The love for logic can be seen in the ways the creators design the app to make it intuitive for solving.

Simply the best

I use Puzzazz for the NYT daily crossword puzzle. The TouchWrite feature allows one to draw letters on the screen. When enabled, the onscreen keyboard goes away, letting the entire puzzle enlarge. Customer support is fast and thorough.

The Best Word/Number Puzzle App!

I've stopped using all the other apps for puzzles. No matter what your style, this app will work well for you. The support is fantastic.

Awesome puzzles

Best Puzzle app, best developer team

CURRENT VERSION: They've done it. They've fixed the NYT bug, and added two features that I missed a lot - a place to see everything I've ever purchased or redeemed, and a way to ignore numbers already completed on Sudoku and Kenken puzzles. The later was a huge differentiator between Puzzazz and traditional Sudoku apps, and now it no longer exists. Good job, Team Puzzazz! OVERALL: This is the best app for puzzles. Their service model is crazy to believe in the first place - how can an app claim to be a place where you can solve ANY puzzle? Focused apps make sense, but not this premise of an app that can handle all formats. Somehow though, Puzzazz pulls that off. They do the impossible, letting you focus on solving and not on apps. The development team is also one of the best I've encountered. They proactively fix bugs and add features that make the app better often. This app is a constant feature on my iPhone and is never going away ever.

Outstanding Puzzle App

I love crossword puzzles. Over the years I have progressed to take on NYTimes. Friday through Sunday puzzles, as well as the great Quigley and Fireball puzzles. Puzzazz lets you conveniently work on these challenges timed or untimely, in "pen" or "pencil", with the choice to check an answer, with or without getting the full word or answer or a letter, comparing yourself to others, etc. They also fix glitches and bugs quickly. You couldn't do better.

Great app

Update three years after original review. Puzzazz just keeps getting better. It now supports an external keyboard, the internal keyboard, and of course the hand-lettering option. I continue to read comments by people who are using other electronic solving platforms, particularly for the New York Times, that the puzzle doesn't show up on their screens the way it was printed (shaded squares, and other such graphical stunts). With Puzzazz all the monkey business is rendered just like the version that newspaper subscribers get. When there's some kind of funny graphic for the answer, like connect-the-dots, Puzzazz displays that perfectly, too. The handling of rebuses has become smoother as well. Recent changes in the way the puzzle is distributed by the NYT, or maybe it's a change in iOS, not sure which, but they "broke" Puzzazz twice recently. In both cases the app was revised quickly to adapt to the new environment and was back up and running in a matter of a couple of days or less. Users were advised by email of the problem, and given workarounds. Puzzazz works well with puzzles from other sources, as well as the NYT. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could. ---------------------- Original review: I've been using it for about three weeks and have no complaints. Great interface, great customer support. (Not Bangalore: the owner/developer answers the questions.) It's very easy to use; once logged in, it remembers me, and takes me automatically to my last puzzle. I don't know if it can connect to an external keyboard, but I don't care. Instead of a keyboard at all, I prefer to write in the letters and it does a very good job at recognizing my writing. It shows the puzzle just like the printed one, complete with notes that sometimes accompany the trick ones, and of course the title for Sunday NYT. The grid and clues are very easy to read. It has a good Rebus function that allows multiple letters and special characters. No drawing feature that would support a real Rebus (like drawing a picture of a person for the letters M*A*N), but putting in the letters works fine. Good support for cheats like revealing errors (by erasing incorrect letters) or revealing words or letters. When complete, it tells you if you solved correctly or not, and most fun, it connects the dots for puzzles where the completed grid forms some kind of picture. Excellent app.

Awful Keyboard

I get that you think your keyboard is better, but no. Just let us use the built-in keyboard!

Keyboard is way too small, clunky interface

I love the NYT crossword app but miss comparing scores with other users. I saw that Puzzazz had a social aspect and thought I'd give it a try, but man is the interface clunky. Keyboard is waaay to small, and it doesn't have any easy way to use gestures to swipe around the grid like the NYT crossword app. May work great for new smartphone solvers but it's not an upgrade for those used to other apps.

The best

Best puzzle app for crossword puzzles. One of the few that allows me to solve puzzles in landscape orientation. And I love the keyboard! Very easy to use with one hand and makes great use of the space available.
