Feature-filled, flexible

I use the app on the iPod Touch. It's flexible enough to handle different types of puzzles, is feature-packed, and connects well with outside sources. The layouts make excellent use of the limited space available on the iPod. It's been completely stable in the versions I've used.

Possibly the best app period. Certainly the one I use the most - its stats tell me I've completed 3,250 puzzles! Seamless NYT subscription support, including any and all quirks - odd grids, rebus entries, multiple letters in a square, etc. I subscribe to many indie puzzles, and do them all in Puzzazz. And they have many free puzzle books (including Sudoku and Ken Ken) and many great books for sale at $3-$5, a real bargain. And the support team is terrific and responsive. If you are using any other XWord app, try this one. It's bound to be better!

This app has so many tricks up its sleeve. Any extras a puzzle constructors might throw at you in print, will be available in Puzzazz. You can get popular subscriptions through the app, puzzle books, and much more. So highly recommended! This team is highly responsive to problems. I encountered an issue in a puzzle book (Maze of Games. Terrific!) that had not been seen before. Once the Puzzazz team knew about this, it took a just short time to get an update. You can't beat that kind of support!
Best of its Kind, Needed Some Fine Tuning, Now Done

I like crosswords and enjoy using this app almost daily. It's rare that I do the Times crossword with paper now. The ability to write the characters on the screen is a nice innovation for a crossword app, and better approximates the traditional experience than using a keyboard. I am a cryptic fan, and it's nice to see an app that is so aware of cryptics. Rebus cells are also handled gracefully. As I have pointed out to the authors, there are two annoying quirks in the otherwise pretty good character recognition that should be improved. You just write the letter with your finger on the touch screen. It's cool. But it consistently recognizes A as M, to the point where it can be difficult to get an A in there. I have not found a reliable way to do it. And it often recognizes N as backspace-erase. Puzzazz is so good in other respects that it's worth putting up with these quirks. But with the amount of effort and care that's obviously gone into this app, it's puzzling (or Puzzazzling) to see these issues, and I hope they will soon be addressed. Update May 2017: I have now solved 496 puzzles with Puzzazz. The other day, a technical problem on The NY Times server side interrupted Puzzazz's access to the NYT puzzles. I had to use the Times app, which is FAR inferior IMO. When I saw how distressed I was about this, I realized that Puzzazz had become one of those apps that is a significant component of my daily life. It wasn't Puzzazz's problem in the first place, and they quickly found a way around it, so my withdrawal symptoms have subsided. I think they have also improved the recognition of A and N. So I'm increasing my rating from 4 stars to 5.

Like the general layout. Print size. If I come across a puzzle that gives me the option to use this app, I will definitely do it.

I have a premium subscription to the NYTimes puzzle and have been struggling with their iPad interface...until I found Puzzazz. It is a beautiful thing! So easy to use and elegantly designed. I love the writing interface using a finger. I'm so excited to have found it. Easily the best and most used app on my iPad.

I am a professional puzzle constructor and this is the best app for solving. Lots of variety and the staff is quick to respond to any questions. Improvements all the time.
