Better than its predecessors, so far

jgahenry

I’ve been sorely disappointed in earlier versions - disconnecting for no apparent reason from wi-fi, one channel or the other cutting out - very maddening. This version, however, seems more reliable so far. This version is the first to live up to my expectations, but I’ve only been using it for a few weeks - hence my reluctance to hand out a 5-star review just yet. But if it continues as it has started out, it has 5-star potential. I felt burned too much to feel super confident just yet. But right now, I’m enjoying my McIntosh RS1’s the way I though I would. So I’m happy right now…

Newest update non-functional

Easypickings

My play-fi app auto-updated now I have no music. The system no longer ‘sees’ any of my speakers and I am dead in the water. I’ve tried re-loading everything several times and am at my wits end. Tried contacting support but that just refers me to faq’s that don’t apply. Big mistake investing in a play-fi system!!

Constantly loses synch with streaming services

MidwestNautical

God, this app is frustrating, it’s either trying to reconnect to the music service or I’m dealing with the “wheel-of-death”. Trying to use the app with the SVS Wireless Speakers and Wireless SoundBase … just doesn’t work, or when it is working, doesn’t last long … garbage.

OK App. Room for improvement.

I use the Play-Fi app direct connection when I want hi-res through my streamer into my stereo using Amazon HD service vs the lower resolution available via airplay2 in the Amazon App. The Amazon interface is ok. I have 109 playlists and the Play-Fi app only shows the first 100. The random play button on music lists doesn’t work. Plus, the lack of gapless playback is very annoying and distracting to the listening experience. So, I don’t use the app as much as I’d like to and settle for airplay2 to keep the practical functionality of the using the Amazon App instead of the Play-Fi app.

Works About 50% of the Time

Wonkiest app I’ve ever used. I have three wireless access points in my home and a strong signal everywhere, yet Play-fi only connects about half the time. Worse, it does not stream all channels from Sirius XM and none from my Pandora account. Unfortunately, the way I’ve set up my receivers and in-wall speakers, I’m committed to sticking with it. But I truly hate it at this point and want a do-over.

Horrible user interface and crashes all the time

Loyal Reader

The most horrible application I’ve ever used. A huge opportunity for a competitor… all they need to do is examine this Play-Fi app and do everything differently!

I can longer adjust volume using cell’s Volume buttons

GoldenEyes&Ears

I want to make you aware that the updated Play-Fi app(s) that has been installed on my iPhone no longer allows me to adjust the volume when playing sound wirelessly through properly setup capable speakers. This has never been an issue since initially installing the app some time ago so I believe that this inability is related to a bug in the software update(s) recently. The work around requires clicking backwards a couple of clicks to the Play-Fi transmitting device’s music source to reveal the volume slider at the bottom of the display to slide left or right. This requires repeating if different music source or song selection requires sound level adjustment. Can you help?

Wonderful sound quality, when it works.

PaulDRamos

The sound quality IS spectacular except for one major issue now, since iOS 15, it does not stream anymore. The app is the most problematic I’ve ever used.

NOT 4.5 - terrible app.

How is this app getting 4.5 stars out of 5?? Who are these people who gave this good review? Did you use it once? Are you using the app on non apple products? I’ve had this for about a year and half an dit is totally not reliable. There is constant failure. Too many times I have to restart everything. I don’t think it is the speakers or my internet. I’ve moved and have new internet provider and router and still the same. All of a sudden the app just fails and music stops. Then I have to restart the whole process, select source, speaker volume etc.. It is totally annoying. Just randomly stopping. Just for information, I am a very tech-oriented person. I can use apps and electronics without much help and able to trouble shoot things. So it isn’t me. I used to and still have apple airplay and that was totally reliable. Never had interruption of music. Play FI when it works is fine. But this constant stop is terrible. I have the app in my iphone and ipad. When I open a webpage that has some sort of audio file, play fi stops and I have to restart the whole thing. EVERYTIME. Why??? I didn’t play any sound from the website. The same thing with phone. If I open the camera with video the Play fi stops. It seems like when ever the ipad or iphone is opening something that has sound, the PLAY FI just shuts down. And it isn’t like you can just hit ‘play’ on Play FI app, you have to re start everything. Besides, I should be able to have music playing/streaming form iphone or ipad and still use the device to do and listen to other stuff. The music is diverted to separate speakers, not the iphone/ipad speakers. There is no need to stop the music because I opened a webpage that has sound. Clearly a flaw. With my apple product, I can play music from any sources, ipad, iMac, iphone and still use that device to listen to something else. Again, the thing is that I don’t always know if there is some sound file on a webpage. So if i happen to open it, the play fi shuts and I have to restart again. OVERALL, this product needs LOTS of work. I am using it as terrible as it is because I bought several wireless speakers paradigm and they only work with play fi so I don’t have choice. Had I known the issues, I would not have bought them.

Cant listen to other stuff while playing music

stee tee

Wanted to like this. When playing music, if u get a phone call or want to watch anything with sound on your phone (or ipad) the music shuts off. U then have to reopen the app and redo the music selection. The music should play in the background!!!! On apple, you can do that. Play music in background and be able to talk on the phone without the music going away. Same thing with certain websites that have sound files. I use my phone to surf the web a lot and when i do i have music playing in the background When i go to certain sites (i think sites that have videos embedded, like npr or fox or cnn), the music shuts off. I then have to reload the DTs app and restart music. Eeeg Same with using the phone to answer a call. No need to shut off music while I'm on the phone talking.
