In the age of Pike and Shot, mighty struggles erupted across Europe for causes religious, political or dynastic. In 1494 A.D. The first of the Italian Wars broke out, starting a long struggle for dominance in the region, involving many major belligerents such as France, the Holy Roman Empire and Spain. After years of fighting, the conflict was not resolved until 1559.
Then from 1618 until 1648, The Thirty Years War raged across Germany and beyond, leaving devastation in its wake, but saw the rise of great commanders such as Count Tilly, Wallenstein and King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, and rapid developments in battlefield tactics. The Thirty Years War saw the involvement of great empires such as the Spanish and the French empires, as well as the Swedes.

And starting at 1642, the English Civil War erupted, tearing the country apart between Royalists and Parliamentarians as the fought for control of the country. After many musket volleys and cavalry charges, it was the famous Olivier Cromwell who led the Parliamentarians to victory, ending the conflict in 1651.

All these wars were fought during the age of Pike and Shot, a time where musketeers “gave fire” in a duel to the death, pikemen held stolidly against enemy assaults, and cavalry charged to glory or defeat. Now you can march into the footsteps of the great leaders of these wars, as you can take command in the greatest historical battles of the Italian Wars, the Thirty Years War and the English Civil War. Fight stand-alone “what-if” scenarios, or design your own scenarios using the easy to use editor and claim glory in Pike & Shot!

Needs update!
Dorb

Update the game so it will play. Now it’s just wasted money until you do. Slitherine you are better than this.

Loved this game, but....
BloodhoundNibor

Sadly, I can no longer play. It will not play on my new IPad Pro due to the 64bit processor. I’ve had this problem with a number of good games. 5 stars for the game. 1 star because I can’t play it anymore and it doesn’t like like it will ever be updated to allow me to ever use the app again.

Looks very good!

Based on just a few games, this looks like an excellent game. Will update review as needed.

Excellent port of the PC game
SgtKelso

This is an excellent port of the PC game. Everything has been included and the game plays like it was made for the tablet. Another great thing is the cross platform support for multiplayer. You can start a game on the PC and pick it up later on the iPad. This one is a winner with me!!

Unique historical strategy gem, well worth the price
Hotspur12

I've been waiting a long time for this to be released and the wait was well worth it! The game setting (the English Civil War, Thirty Years War, and 15th century Italian Wars) is utterly unique to the strategy genre, much less among iPad games. Has the same epic feel of the Total War games, but with turn-based battles and much more emphasis on historical authenticity (and much better AI!). Another comparison might be HistWar: Les Grognards or Sid Meier's Gettysburg. My biggest complaint is the zoom feature- it would be nice to be able to zoom in closer to get a better look at the individual soldiers. The game could also use a couple more graphical bells and whistles, though I know there may be engine restrictions there. Of course these minor complaints in no way detract from what the game excels at: realistic tactical strategy in a unique historical setting. A must-buy for any fans of the strategy genre or with interest in the historical periods featured.

Great game
Andrew Thau

This is a great game about a relatively under covered part of history. Very unique in terms of units and gameplay. A great addition to the library.

Grognard's delight
MettikSvetik

Tricky to master but has all the nuance and flavor one can ask of any war game...and the setting is unique...this appeals to both the war gamer and historian in me One of the first iPad games that truly replaces the chits and hexes Be warned Victory does not come easy in this game

Great game
JakseSA

Great game depicting a unique period. Skirmish mode is quite deep and that alone is worth the price.

Unique strategy gem, worth every penny
JmJ4

I can only echo what others have said by saying this game is worth every penny to any strategy or military tactics fan, and offers a unique period of historic battles to experience. I've played a large number of strategy games for the PC and iPad and I have to say Pike and Shot is an instant classic and already one of my all time favorites. The skirmish mode is a priceless addition as well, and ensures infinite replay value. Bravo Slitherine!!!

Worth the price
Sturmkraehe1963

Slitherine games tend to be pricier than most tablet offerings, but in this case the price tag is worth it. Challenging gameplay that takes into account facing and flanking does a good job of simulating the period. The game engine seems very similar to Battle Academy 2, but the producer has done a great job of replacing the World War 2 theme with 30 Year's War. Hey Slitherine, can you tackle Napoleonics next?
