*Know what’s happening right now.*
With instant updates from people reporting issues, live MTA arrival times, and a map showing you where all the trains are right now, you can feel confident knowing that Pigeon keeps you in the know.
From Edgewater, NJ to Port Authority is about 35 minutes on the 158 bus through Lincoln Tunnel. But this app only wants to send you north across the GWB then the A train down to Port Authority - 72 minutes. NO option for the 158 bus south. Really weird...and really worthless. Two stars only because if I ever want to somehow take a long out of the way route, I can use this app.
A transit app with just subway information is great if you’re, say, a single, twentysomething, highly paid tech worker living in Manhattan who just hails an Uber anytime public transportation is mildly inconvenient. But a truly comprehensive transit app that serves ALL kinds of New Yorkers needs bus information as well, because hey not everyone who lives in the five boroughs matches the profile of the team at Pigeon. That said, they’ve done a terrific job with what’s here. They just gotta quit vaping a minute, get off their boosted boards, take out their AirPods and broaden their horizons just a little bit.
This has quickly become my go to app for commuting! On my way home I just have to open it and it shows me exactly how long till the next train is (and how crowded it it) and I love it! Super simple and the crowd sourced info on delays is everything! Love it!!!
I dig the real time updates submitted by users for delays, closures, and even if there might be a performer in a station, and find it very useful when I take the subways. However I think that they need to crack down on spam reports and should only make it so if you are nearby a station, that you can report conditions. Also find the lack of bus updates something that needs to be implemented as well as a better interface want to comes to putting in directions, like real time updates if something comes up along your trip
I just downloaded this app, and I will be using it as Anonymous for now. I refuse to be forced to use my defunct google account to sign in. If this is supposed to be “like Waze”, let me sign in using my phone number or create an account using anything else for that matter. Rating may go up depending on the apps actual functionality.
Familiar with Waze so I was interested when I saw the ad for Pigeon. Love the concept of real time reporting from users but calling us pigeons not cool (re: song No Pigeons circa ‘00). Cool points not withstanding I would really like to see buses added for a more comprehensive look at the MTA cause two fare zones are super REAL & the buses have similar drama as the train.
The app has no bus routes. They expect you to walk a lot! What about disabled and elderly people?
