Picture the Sentence HD Lite

“She is eating an apple.” What does that sentence really mean? What would those words look like if I imagined this image in my mind? Picture the Sentence is an exciting app for the iPAD designed to practice language and auditory processing tasks at the basic sentence level.

This app offers three different levels of difficulty so the child can learn how to attend to important elements of a sentence and “picture it,” attaching meaning to the words and eventually forming mental pictures without visual support. It is also an excellent choice for anyone who is trying to learn and understand the English language. **Turn the voice commands off and the text feature on, and this game can also be a great way to practice basic reading comprehension skills too!

Check out our full version app on the HamaguchiApps channel on YouTube to find out more about the features of this lite version. They work the same, except the lite version allows 3 users only, and targets only the subject + verb + object syntax structures. http://youtu.be/gaiE7OQV-AQ

Because these kinds of intensive listening tasks can be challenging for some children, we have incorporated a cute “Pick-a-Door” game, which can be selected at varying intervals so the user can take a break and have a little fun.

Options in the Settings Include:
•Choice of color drawing icons or stick figures
•Levels include: Easy (slow, with visual support staying on the screen) Intermediate (faster rate with pauses, with visual support flashing briefly on the screen) and Advanced (no pausing or visual support)
•Text on/Text off
•Choice of subjects: Pronouns (He/she/they) or nouns (boy/girl/children)
•Sandtimer (This delays the presentation of the picture choices so there is a greater challenge to the child’s working memory.)
•Sentence Type available in the Lite version: subject + verb + object
* Progress/Data Tracker: email, save, or print the results

I am a pediatric speech-language pathologist and I am a big fan of all of the Hamaguchi apps. This app is no exception. It is well designed and I did not experience any technical issues while using it. My young patients enjoy using the app and find it engaging. I love the uncluttered design! It is effective without being overwhelming/distracting.

One tiny request
AnneMarie38

I like app and it fits the specific needs of a few of my students. My only request would be to make it possible to manually move onto the picture choices after the sentence is given instead of automatically moving to the three choices. I would like to have the option to have my student repeat the sentence before moving on to finding the corresponding picture. Like a simple button that says "next" or just an arrow. You follow?? Or even making your own sentences so you can tailor the app even more specific to the student.

Great app!

I got this and really liked it but after awhile realized I needed the full version to play with longer sentence levels but still it is a very cool app and helps with visualizing and pronouns. Definitely worth checking out.

Great app!

I have 2 girls with ASD...and 2 boys with dyslexia..and one other boy with processing disorder. This is exactly what I need for them all. They all think and read in pictures and trying to read without the pictures is really hard for them. One of the girls has never read and she is 18 yr. she loves this app as it gives her a huge boost in self esteem "mommy...I'm reading!". Can't wait to be able to buy the full version!

These are great

I am really impressed with this app, I got the lite version and am going to buy the full version. My grandson is 12 but at a k level, he easily comprehends the ideas in the app, I like the option setting too. Overall we give it 5 stars and worth buying the full version. Thank you

Great app but one suggestion
Pepperincc

Excellent app for our 4-year old autistic son but can you add a positive reinforcer when the correct picture is placed in the box e.g., a verbal "great job" or some clapping or cheering sounds? I will buy the full app if this is added and give it 5 stars. It really helps kids understand that they are doing it right and encourages them. Thanks!

Great imagery tool

The format is supportive for processing and recall practice.

My clients with auditory processing problems will enjoy the game. However it is not versatile enough for my students with higher skills. A reinforcement following a correct response will make the game more interesting and motivating. e.g. good job, clapping etc.

Good comprehension app!

Good comprehension app! The only thing I noticed I was wishing to change was to "speed up" the process....my daughter struggles with big pauses like I was finding in this app...Else I really like it!!

Needs update!

Crashes every time I tried to choose my child's name. Couldn't change settings, always went back to default. Fix these things and I'll try it again. Could be a useful tool for children with challenges.
