2.2.1 Update Better

Barbatus Unum

2.2.1 fixed the nasty UI toolbar problems in 2.2.0. Could finally put the toolbar back up top again without it being a mess overlaying the iOS status bar. Thanks! Web site loading speed seems improved too (keeping in mind TOR is a lot slower by design - this is normal in order to protect your privacy). But the initial connecting to TOR at launch seems noticeably longer most times than with previous versions. Still needs several key features from my prior review: Needs the ability to lock/unlock the browser screen with the Home button fingerprint reader like DuckDuckGo’s iOS browser does. Blurring the backgrounded snapshot is very good, but anyone can tap it and immediately see the web page you were reading. (Yes, there are plenty of iOS users who still have devices with and actually use the physical Home button. So let’s put it to best use here.) Also needs the feature to auto-select or rotate to a different TOR connection if the TOR connection route in use is very slow. (TOR browsers or network connectors on Windows & Android can do this already.) Even better to make it selectable by country like Orbot does on Android, and show you the country/server nodes in your connection path — so you can avoid going through certain countries. Needs a much larger “X” button to close individual tabs — current one is far too tiny on iPad -- often miss it and have to try multiple tap attempts. The audio-video IP address leaking issues are still a major problem (disabling it doesn’t help if that’s what you need this browser to access in the first place), but that sounds to be a limitation of iOS overall with no solution available yet. Here’s hoping someone figures it out soon (including Apple). Overall, this browser update works better than prior versions, but needs more development to be on par with other PC/mobile TOR browsers. Seems like it’s getting there, and I appreciate it’s free. Looking forward to more timely updates with more improvements please!

DO NOT DOWNLOAD UNTIL FIX!

Sebasivx

Everything I search on DuckDuckGo immediately says “forbidden” then I use another search engine and it says “unusual high traffic, checking to see if I’m not a robot” but it doesn’t check anything it just stays there and doesn’t allow me to navigate the web! HORRIBLE BAD APPLICATION! DO NOT DOWNLOAD UNLESS THIS BUG IS FIXED!

Official App

Bestoso

I highly recommend this version over the other TOR browsers on the App Store. This app is linked to by the torproject website. 5 Star

Appears genuine; be aware of iOS limitations

As far as I can research, this appears to be a genuine open source port of a tor-tunneled browser to iOS. There exists an article on Ars Technica, but more importantly, Onion Browser is linked as a recommendation on the Tor Project download page, as an alternative for iOS users. I suspect the reason it has not been fully adopted by the Tor Project, as an official Tor Browser Bundle, is due to certain unavoidable issues with iOS causing IP address leakage - the Onion Browser website currently lists an issue with iOS’ handling of OCSP, and WebRTC, both potentially leaking data outside of the Tor connexion. Perhaps we will have an alternative when iCEPA (Tor on iOS via VPN API) is completed. As far as more easily solvable problems go, I think it is worth mentioning that the default User Agent does not match that of the Firefox ESR branch as done by TBB; perhaps that is intentional, to reduce the fingerprinting uniqueness of a WebKit browser masquerading as a Gecko one, but I think this should have been explained to the user in the setting description. Also, the Global Settings option for “Privacy - open in Settings app” does nothing, merely switching to Settings, without opening a specific preference panel/pane.

iPhone and JavaScript

PixelBlair

So this app is amazing and I love it but there’s just one measly thing I have a question about. I’ve downloaded this on my iPhone and it works great, no issues whatsoever except that there is no option to turn JavaScript off. Apparently turning JavaScript off adds to the protection part of the app except that there is no such option anywhere. I’ve checked the settings on the app and my iPhone but still nothing. Not sure if there truly is one but I’d like for that to be an option if possible. Please and thanks! Update: I just found where JavaScript blocking was after extensive searching. Apologies for before. This app is worth the 5 stars

Works with NordVPN

Chanson+de+Roland

While this browser has the usual problems of Onion/Tor browsers, it does at least work with NordVPN.

Outdated badly

In a Tor world, 3 months is eternity! Is there an update coming or is this an abandonware?
