I was, emphasis on was, an avid new york times crossword enjoyer. My favorite tradition was playing the crosswords with my girlfriend late into the evening. I made the mistake of hoping this pleasant part of my daily schedule could continue. Everything was going well, sharing some laughs, pleasantries, enjoying the puzzles... Until we got to Ross Trudeaus embarrassing excuse for a crossword. March 2nd 2021 - A day that will live in infamy Really? Do you truly expect people to fork over $5.99 a MONTH for this sad excuse for a literary brain teaser????????????? Examples of Trudeaus horrendous attempts at "clues" (if you can even begin to associate that word with the hints that Trudeau leaves for the poor puzzler) are Q: "No Kidding?" A: ITIS ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? Crosswords are an American Newspaper staple, and as such have a reputation If a crossword is full of these nonsensical "hints" than how is your average crossword goer supposed to make an attempt to solve this putrid monstrosity. I'd venture to assume that the average crossword player is smarter than the average Joe. It takes commitment, it takes time. The beauty of regularly playing crosswords is that over time you develop a rapport with how to solve especially tricky puzzles, but when the "hints" (again using that word lightly) are so incredibly vague, it simply makes the crossword unplayable, and overall a displeasing experience. A week ago I considered buying the $40 year subscription... Now I don't even know if I will buy the NYT crossword archive subscription for the next month. Do better Mark.

Regularly glitches and wastes time. They put basically everything behind a paywall and fail to provide the same features as the android app.

I have been doing the mini everyday for years and the past few months the app has barely worked. Sometimes it takes me opening and closing it repeatedly and/or waiting with it open for like 5 full minutes just for the app to load past a white screen with the “your free trial has ended” banner (which, also, wish the big crosswords were free but I get it I guess) and now it started doing a fun thing where it loads and let’s me click on the mini, but will not open it. NYT crossword I love you I once stood outside of the NYT building and got emotional because I knew that’s where my daily crossword is born so please do something I don’t know what I’m a simple crossword player but just something ok thank U bye

This is the worst app on my phone. The crosswords themselves are great, but the app is borderline unusable. The leaderboard never works. It never shows me any of my friends’ times, and even after I play the puzzle myself it doesn’t display my own time.The app gives me notifications when it is time to play the daily mini, but then when I open the app the daily mini is nowhere to be found for at least 15 minutes after the notification appears.I had this app on my previous Google pixel and it works great. But the iPhone app for meAnd for all my friends is absolutely terrible.

All the (less) guilty pleasure of a smartphone diversion plus an interface that actually improves on its paper cousin — ok, except the bragging about using ink. That was really about ease for commuting anyway… Access to a huge archive makes it absolutely worth the price

App is bugging today. 7am and today’s mini not available. Supposedly tomorrow’s is available? But won’t open.
