I have the Greek and Russian Michel Thomas courses and they are excellent. So I decided to buy the french. Unfortunately, the person is not a native speaker and his pronunciation is horrible. I can't even understand what he's saying in English half the time. I don't want to learn french from someone who can't speak it properly. If I could return the app, I would. If you don't mind learning from someone who isn't a native speaker this app is great. Otherwise, don't waste your money.
Flawed but the best thing on the market

Overall, I think this app is worth every dollar that I paid. This audio is so much different than any other learning language learning system out there. It doesn't focus on memorization but making memorable connections with what you already know. The method takes similar words between English and French, focuses on using verbs, and within minutes you can construct hundreds of sentences in French. By the end of the 8 hours you will be able to construct complex sentences. I learned more in French in this audio than I did in 6 years of high school and college courses in Spanish. There are a few quirks: 1) the woman in the audio is kind of annoying, 2) Michel Thomas seems to treat her like crap, 3) you can hear the students talking under their breaths, 4) you can hear drinking and other sounds, 5) the errors by the students can be a little distracting (The audio is set up like a classroom. I was making the some of the same mistakes. Not sure if that helps or causes more confusion.), and 6) Michel Thomas's accent is a little hard to follow, but if you really want to learn a language this app shouldn't be your only expose to the words. Hour 4 Lesson 10 doesn't work; it errors out. I'm hoping that will be fixed, but I don't think that it impacted my learning. The flashcards are really helpful because you take on the role of one of the students with them. At the end of everything, I could speak basic French but understanding it was a lot harder. The hearing and instant deciphering aspect takes more time and exposure. When listening to french radio, i understood every other phrase. If you couple this with French media, podcasts, a dictionary, and immersive interactions with French speakers, you should pick up the language quickly.

Great app! Michel Thomas is a stud. However the current version has 2 flaws. 1) If you skip ahead to a future lesson (maybe because you want to know what you will be learning in a few weeks or so) then all the lessons previous lessons are marked as completed which is not true. 2) When your iPhone or iPod locks the app shuts off. It should continue to play much like when you are playing music in the iPod app. It used to work that way previously but the latest update changed that.
Very bad experience with this company

I downloaded all 10 hours of this app only to have it disappear from my "purchased apps" window. Therefore, when I went to re-download to a new iPad and other devices it was impossible. It would not recognize I had already purchased the App. I have spent 2 MONTHS, and time I do not have,(who does?) emailing this company. When they're not "out of the office" and did bother to email me, they just can't figure out what the problem was. This is not rocket science. It is documented in my receipt history that I purchased the App. At the very least they should have simply had me re-download the app, pay for it, and then reimburse me. Have finally given up. After this dreadful experience I would not recommend this App to anyone. Go for Yabla, or Rocket French.

The Michel Thomas lessons are very effective. I recommend them to anyone wanting to begin learning French.

Takes all the unnecessary complications out of learning the basics of a language. You begin by feeling you know some basics and build on it. Hearing a tutors voice also helped to keep me interested.

Bought the entire French course only to have my in-app purchases completely disappear. Emailed the company 3 times but zero response. Millions of apps manage to track purchases and enable re-downloading, so it can't be that difficult. Buyer beware!
